Bechtel is designing, constructing, and commissioning the world’s largest radioactive waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy at the Hanford Site in southeastern Washington State. The Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant will use vitrification technology to process and solidify 56 million gallons (210 million liters) of radioactive and chemical waste stored at the Hanford site, which is a byproduct of plutonium production during World War II and the Cold War era.
The project is the largest undertaking of its kind and one of DOE’s most technically challenging cleanup projects. Its construction spans 65 acres (26 hectares) with four major nuclear facilities – Pretreatment, Low-Activity Waste Vitrification, High-Level Waste Vitrification and Analytical Laboratory – as well as operations and maintenance buildings, utilities, other support facilities.
This position is located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) and works a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Selected applicant needs to be able and willing to work weekends as needed.

The Waste Treatment Completion Company (WTCC) is a limited liability corporation created by Bechtel National Inc. (BNI) and Amentum. WTCC is a subcontractor to BNI, the prime contractor, to deliver the construction, turnover, startup, and commissioning activities for the WTP project.
Position Summary
Under direct supervision, the Industrial Hygienist I is responsible for implementing and administering project industrial hygiene programs affecting employee, public safety and occupational health and performs basic and routine duties in a wide range of industrial hygiene disciplines to achieve compliance with the ES&H standards along with federal and state regulatory requirements; serves as a resource for line management to administer a proactive prevention program for occupational accidents and illnesses; assists in the development, implementation and maintenance of safety and health programs, systems and procedures; assists in monitoring and controlling hazards that could be present in the work area; works with others to investigate accidents, injuries and complaints concerning hazards in the workplace; participates in recommending improvement in processes, design, procedures and equipment to minimize hazards; participates in employee training, emergency preparedness and assures the quality of programs. This position may require shift work to support plant operations.

Provides technical assistance to office and field operations to ensure compliance with applicable international, Federal, State, and/or Company health and safety regulations.
Conducts compliance evaluations of equipment, structures, and work in progress to ensure that regulatory safety and health standards of the Company and all applicable codes are followed.
Recommends facilities and technological specifications to carry out programs that fulfill the organization's overall objectives.
Conduct IH monitoring and assessment to determine exposures to occupational health hazards.
Attend work planning meetings to identify occupational health hazards and provided recommended controls to execute the work safely.
Prepares technical reports, correspondence and program compliance documents.
Maintains permits as required.
Meets applicable regulatory codes and standards where required.

Qualifications and Skills
Basic Qualifications
BS/MS in Occupational Safety, Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, or related science or engineering field.
0+ years’ experience in a nuclear, heavy construction, chemical processing, or petroleum refining environment.
