The Indirect Category Buyer is responsible for the procurement of  capital goods required to support ongoing plant and facility operations, as well as services required to support business operations of all internal departments and functions.  As a result, the Procurement Team depends on the Indirect Category Buyer to proactively communicate with the global supply base to ensure that all indirect purchased material is sourced at the lowest total landed cost while yet conforming to the required performance standards needed to meet the project demand at all Mercury Marine locations worldwide. 

Job Accountabilities and Performance Criteria for this position include:

 

Job Accountabilities and Performance Criteria

Category Sourcing ( Capital Goods and Services):  40%              

Independently, and in collaboration with others, research and investigate potential suppliers.  Evaluate supplier capability, solicit and analyze RFP/RFQs, negotiate commercial agreements and finalize purchase contracts to achieve best total cost of ownership for , capital goods and service purchases, in accordance with current category strategies or new product programs. Demonstrated behaviors should include the ability to:

  • Successfully manage projects to existing time and budget constraints and new product cost targets.
  • Proficient use of Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) software to meet quoting capital requirements
  • Effectively participate with the category leader to develop, communicate and champion category strategies

Oracle Work Flow Management: 25%

Independently review and approve purchase orders, material pricing and supplier master maintenance requests to ensure timely execution of , capital goods and services purchases.   Demonstrated behaviors should include the ability to:

  • Effectively and appropriately track, forecast,  report and communicate PPV to external and internal partners
  • Compose and issue accurate and complete purchase orders to meet project timelines

Contract Negotiation: 25%

Independently and under the direction and /or guidance of the Indirect Category Leader, Director, Indirect Materials and Systems and/or Legal, negotiate availability of product, pricing, cash terms, warranty, delivery, supplier performance criteria/statement of work (SOW) and all other relevant contract terms to clearly define the expectations and deliverables associated with the purchase of, capital goods and/or services.  Demonstrated behaviors should include the ability to:

  • Manage individual contract negotiations
  • Support warranty recovery and supplier charge back negotiations

Administration of Corporation Programs:  5%

Independently and/or in collaboration with end users and Brunswick Indirect Procurement, administer programs needed to support daily operations of the procurement function; (i.e. P-card, office supply program, etc).

Continuous Process Improvement: 5%

Independently and/or in collaboration with internal and external working partners, define, measure, analyze, improve and control processes, programs and supplier performance to effectively, efficiently and proactively achieve strategic business initiatives and/or key performance indicators.  Passionately lead fellow employees by communicating the vision, engaging employees and empowering them to become change agents who are prepared and able to successfully lead the organization forward to embrace the future. Job Competency Requirements

Experience / Professional Credentials:

  • 6+ years of experience in supply chain, or closely related purchasing experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in Capital Goods and Services
  • CPSM or C.P.M. certification preferred
  • LSS Green Belt or higher preferred

Education Requirements:

  • BS/BA in business, engineering or other related field

Subject Matter Knowledge:

  • Purchasing methods, procedures, laws and standards
  • Manage Sourcing Business Rules
  • Manage Supplier Agreements

Baseline Skill Expectations:

Intermediate level skills and demonstrated proficiency requirements include:

  • Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint proficiency
  • Negotiation

  • Interpersonal, written and verbal communication

Business Travel Expectations

  • This position will require occasional day and/or overnight travel by auto or airplane, up to 10%.
