Job Summary:
Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) is the master planning, creative development, design, engineering, production, project management, and research and development arm of Disney’s Parks and Resorts business segment. Representing more than 150 disciplines, its talented teams of Imagineers are responsible for the creation of Disney resorts, theme parks and attractions, hotels, water parks, real estate developments, regional entertainment venues, cruise ships and new media technology projects.
Within the Show Systems Studio is where we produce the magic. Our processes and tool sets take us from concept design or mock ups to full on production, assembly and instillation.
Responsibilities:
Responsibility of an Illusion Maker Sr. (Figure Finisher / Digital Costumer)
- Digital costume design for complicated Audio Animatronic figures
- Mock-up and fabrication of costumes for complicated Audio Animatronic figures
- Troubleshoot, test, evaluate and modify costumes as needed
- Design and fabricate costumes for longevity and with maintenance in mind
- Problem solve, mock-up and test solutions to complex figure finishing / costuming issues
- Document and archive costume digital files, patterns, fabric information, accessories, figure props, part information, etc., per project requirements
- Partner with the Surface Development, Mechanical and Electrical teams to ensure that the costumes are part of the overall integrated figure system
- Collaborate with the WDI Creative teams (including with our I.P. partners at Walt Disney Animation Studio, Pixar, Lucasfilm and Marvel) to develop the figure costumes and to ensure that they meet the creative intent and overall look of the show
- Collaborate with Dimensional Design’s digital and physical sculptors to ensure costume attachments, fur and costume offsets, clearances, joint coverage, range of motion, etc., are all considered during the sculpt and model development phase
- Develop costuming design and fabrication estimates
- Develop costuming design and fabrication schedules
- Track and adhere to established schedules and budgets
- Efficiently execute change management as needed
- Source and order materials
- Work with vendors and suppliers to ensure quality and timely deliveries
- Willingness to travel (including internationally) as required
- Train our park maintenance partners in the installation, removal, handling and care of the Audio Animatronic figure costumes
Basic Qualifications:
- Proficient in CLO
- Proficient in MAYA
- Understanding of SolidWorks and Rhino
- 5+ years experience in Audio Animatronic figure costume design and fabrication
- Strong knowledge of fabrics, fabric qualities and uses, and the dyeing and dye sublimation processes
- Strong knowledge and ability to fabricate and style fur wigs
- Fabrication experience using stretch furs
- 3D printing experience and knowledge of processes, materials, etc.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with other disciplines
- Strong planning and organizational skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong understanding of Audio Animatronic figures and the figure production pipeline
- Strong ability to problem solve and think outside the box
Required Education
- B.S degree
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
