Job Description

Position Summary:

The position evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria, using independent judgment in making adaptations and modifications to design documents based on scope changes. Performs assignments, which have clear and specific objectives and require the investigation of a limited number of variables for an engineering discipline within a global business unit. Understands the basic discipline work processes.  Performs engineering tasks, within a discipline, having a degree of complexity. Participates in reviewing and checking designs, drawings, and data from the engineering team and suppliers. The position is performed under the leadership of a Control Systems Lead Engineer. 

Additionally, the role calls for a candidate with intermediate knowledge and experience of using Rockwell RSLogix software to develop basic configuration of Allen Bradley PLCs to support FATs with the project Start-Up engineer.  

Responsibilities:

Specific duties for this position include:

  • Review of Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs) for various plant systems.
  • Generation of design and design change packages.
  • Revisions to specification for instrumentation and control valves.
  • Generation of instrument data sheets and material requisitions.
  • Design and review of digital and analog control logic.
  • Data entry to instrumentation, valve, and I/O databases.
  • Coordination of physical locations of instrumentation, control valves, control cabinets, etc.
  • Design and review of cabinet layouts.
  • Industrial control system (PLC) software programming.
  • Participate in supplier factory acceptance testing.
  • Coordination with other engineering disciplines and other functions.
  • Some travel to plant and supplier facilities may be required.  

Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering curriculum from an accredited college or university and 6 (Level 1) or 9 (Level 2) years of relevant experience. In lieu of a degree, 12+ (Level 1) or 15+ (Level 2) years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in the design of facility control systems.
  • Experience with instrumentation specification and selection.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Working experience of using Industrial control system (PLC) software programming – specifically RSLogix.
  • Current US Citizenship required. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and making good progress toward being capable of passing the Professional Engineer (PE) exam for state registration.
