Job summary
As a member of Amazon’s Screening Services team, Program Managers support the business through the design, implementation, and leadership of global Screening programs. As a Program Manager, you are responsible for managing the lifecycle of a complex cross-functional program with global impact. Your deliverables will include managing large initiatives that span organizations and geographies in support of significant business objectives.
As a program owner, you are accountable for the overall strategy as well as tactically driving teams in and outside your organization to deliver improvement for your customers and the business. You are able to define the program objectives, analyze data, and then drive improvements based on your analysis. You understand the significant business problems in your program space, automation limitations, scaling factors, boundary conditions, and reasons behind leadership decisions.
You partner with customers, internal/external teams, and engineering teams to determine what projects move forward and in what priority order. You use your judgment to question proposals and test assumptions (Q. Do we need to deliver this at all?). You enlist senior individual contributors and leaders to ensure solutions scale (or will scale). You make smart trade-offs (e.g., time vs. effort vs. deliverables).
You create plans that have clear, measurable success criteria. You clearly communicate progress and outcomes. You oversee the gap between teams, processes, and systems. You are able to solve ambiguous problems and proactively identify and mitigate risks (before they become roadblocks). You demonstrate good judgment in how and when to escalate (without damaging relationships). You are data-driven. You regularly review metrics and proactively seek out new and improved data/mechanisms for visibility. You ensure your program stays aligned with organizational objectives.
You understand program-management best practices. You may be asked to use your knowledge to assess processes, program plans, and operations requirements. You streamline and/or eliminate excess process to deliver a superior service to customers and stakeholders in your space. You influence teams to decouple from dependencies and eliminate problems that stifle innovation or cause user dissatisfaction. You are an excellent communicator. You write effective narratives (e.g., Amazon 6-pager, PR/FAQ, reporting, etc.) and present them effectively to leaders. You routinely deliver the right things with limited guidance. When confronted with discordant views, you are able to find the best way forward and influence others to follow that path (build consensus).
About the team
Come join a team of smart, human (kind and imperfect), innovative people who aren't afraid to challenge the status quo. We create an environment of openness and fairness where failures are embraced and learned from and high performance is expected. We focus on our people and believe that employees don't need to be micro-managed. If you are looking for an opportunity to lead and manage your own space, while working with awesome people who laugh a lot, this is a good place for you.
