We are currently seeking an ambitious individual to join our team as Head of SPST Recovery Planning, working together with colleagues to define, manage and achieve divisional business targets. 

Your role is critical to the success of HSBC’s Strategic Planning & Stress Testing (SP&ST) team which is situated within the Finance function. The team within which you will sit will be responsible for enhancing the quality and delivery of recovery options for recovering planning as well as planning and stress testing activity across the group. 

In this role, you will: 

  • Devise and own a framework for the identification, design and validation of recovery options.  
  • Lead and running the recovery planning process for all stress tests exercises and provide a key input into the group recovery plan exercise. 
  • Work with stakeholders across regions, business and central functions to identify and validate both BAU and strategic recovery options 
  • Review and challenge of proposed recovery options to ensure proposed actions meet the requirements of the devised framework and identify appropriate triggers and barriers to execution. 
  • Embed appropriate triggers/early warning indicators to support recovery options in the planning and stress test process.  
  • Work closely with the Valuation in Resolution (ViR) team to ensure a coordinated and continuum of actions across both recovery and resolution planning. 
  • Provide input to Group and regional governance requirements for all recovery option related material and produce insightful analysis to support governance. 
  • Deliver all documentation requirements relating to recovery options to support the annual recovery planning exercise and stress testing requirements
  • Deliver transformational changes across the function to achieve simplification, alignment between forecasting processes and enhanced analysis and insights
  • Be required to have a strong ability to influence senior management and team outside the direct reports to deliver high quality output at pace. 
  • Demonstrate well-developed leadership skills with experience in managing diverse teams and driving new ways of working to culture highly capable and motivated individuals. Strong management of a team across varying locations, skill sets, and levels of experience is required. 
  • Provide insights and challenge to improve the control environment that supports planning and stress testing.
 

Qualifications

 

To be successful in the role, you should meet the following requirements:

  • Have experience in designing, identifying and validating recovery options either across recovery planning and/or stress testing exercises 
  • Demonstrate excellent delivery skills and has experience in delivering recovery planning and/or planning and stress tests in large and complex organisations
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of financial statements, finance processes (e.g. budgeting, planning, forecasting, cost / revenue allocations) and finance systems, preference for a candidate with a professional qualification / certification
  • Demonstrate a drive for excellence and continuously looking at ways to improve processes and outputs
  • Have significant experience working within financial services industry with significant exposure to senior Finance and non-finance staff
  • Have the ability to identify and articulate issues, but more importantly offer innovative and practical solutions, and drive through their execution in a collective and timely manner
  • Have good understanding of the regulatory and legislative framework
  • Proven leadership and relationship management skills in dealing with all levels, with the confidence to interact with executive & senior management and make measured decisions
  • Excellent communication (written & verbal), planning and organisation skills
  • Well-developed leadership skills, with experience of team management across a diverse team and demonstrating ability to use initiative and effect change through people in a large matrix organisation
  • Prior experience of working with offshore/satellite teams is desirable
  • Be a self-starter who is not afraid to speak up and face a challenge; also open to listen to guidance and learn as they go.
  • Have xceptional drive and commitment; ability to work and thrive in a fast changing, results driven environment; and proven ability in handling competing priorities
