About the Role
We are currently recruiting for a Head of Quality Assurance to join the Ampthill business, a key role which will be empowered to make a difference across the entire business. Reporting directly to the Vice President and site Managing Director, the Head of Quality is responsible for assuring and ensuring that the products and services of Ampthill conform to requirements. Leading a team of over 37 quality professionals, the Head of Quality must provide quality assurance, quality engineering, supplier quality engineering and inspection and test capabilities within budgetary constraints. The Head of Quality is also a member of the Ampthill Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and has a number of secondary leadership responsibilities associated with this.

Required skills, qualifications and experience
This role requires a self-assured, motivated team leader of high integrity that has the ability to develop and deliver vision and strategy in line with the site’s business plan. The successful candidate will proactively offer guidance and demonstrate leadership to an excellent standard, must have sufficient financial competence to manage a functional budget, and must have the ability to make often challenging and timely decisions. The role will need to be undertaken by a self-starter who is capable of operating with the minimal direction and supervision, and is comfortable holding people to account. The Head of Quality needs to be a well organised, people orientated person who can demonstrate effective listening and communication skills in order to build strong relationships; internally, across the corporation, and with both suppliers and customers alike.
The following experience would be desirable to the position:
Thorough experience of applying the Principles of Quality to good effect.
Knowledge of ISO9001 and AS9100 Quality Standards and associated clauses.
Experience of managing a Quality Management System.
Experience of recruiting, managing and mentoring staff.
Experience of identifying training and development needs and putting plans into place.
Green Belt, Black Belt or Lean qualifications.
Experience of the Defence and Aerospace domains.
Experience of working within a large international corporation.
Experience of Programme Management.
Experience of Manufacture.
Experience of Engineering Design.
Experience of identifying appropriate metrics and managing to good effect.
Experience of Audit.
Knowledge of the UK MOD as a customer.
Qualifications:
Appropriate degree from an accredited college, or equivalent experience/combined education, with professional experience and specialised training commensurate with this assignment.
