The FSA is a non-ministerial department of over 1300 people, with a big vision – to drive change in the food system so that it delivers “food we can trustâ€. Our primary goal is to continue to protect public health and consumers’ wider interest in food. As we have now exited the EU the FSA faces a significant period of change and activity.
The Officials Controls around meat and dairy production form an important part of the FSA’s work to ensure that food in the UK is safe and exactly what it says it is. Central to these efforts is the work carried out by our Official Veterinarians (OVs) and Meat Hygiene Inspectors (MHIs). Collectively, the work these dedicated individuals undertake plays a vital role in the nation’s wellbeing.
This post is advertised as an 18-month Fixed Term appointment with the possibility of being made permanent. Candidates that are already established Civil Servants will come to the FSA on a Loan basis and will need to request permission from their Home Department for the Loan prior to applying for this job.
In our continued efforts to provide the very highest standard of service, the FSA is hiring a Head of Project Delivery to oversee the delivery of a new operational veterinary resourcing model. We are midway through the delivery of a significant Operational Transformation programme that will redefine how our work is carried out and ensure that we are prepared to handle the evolving food landscape for years to come. The post holder for the Head of Project Delivery role will look to lead the design and delivery of a transitional ‘hybrid’ resourcing model that will bridge the gap between our existing model and future strategic solution, enabling our work to continue smoothly as we take on a new approach.
This is a fantastic opportunity to help shape important work done by one of the UK’s leading regulators, using your expertise in delivering large-scale and complex change programmes to create an operational environment that more than matches up to the demands of the ever-changing food industry. You will lead the project team and oversee the delivery of the project outcomes, measuring their impact and success to ensure that the FSA is continuing to deliver a high-quality service that offers value for money to the taxpayer.
From the management of the project budget to the identification of and communication with key stakeholders, you will oversee every corner of the project. Your work will ensure that risk management and resilience are built into our plans, that we procure external support as needed, and that the project is completed successfully in a creative and innovative environment that brings the best out of everyone involved.
Your communication skills will play a significant part in your success in the role, allowing you to share your vision for the project with key stakeholders and team members alike, align others to the project’s goals and connect your work with that of colleagues across the FSA.
If you are a strong and inspirational leader who can bring about impactful change, this is a fantastic opportunity to make a tangible impact on food safety in the UK and help prepare the FSA to better serve the British public for years to come.
