Job Description

What will you deliver?

  • The main responsibility will be to deliver commercially sensible and practical litigation and dispute resolution advice across the business with an aim of balancing legal risk, driving innovation, reducing external legal spend where appropriate and being viewed as integral to decision making throughout EQUANS UK and its divisions. 

 

  • Managing and resolving any claims of EQUANS UK, on wide ranging issues from payment disputes, Construction Act adjudications, breach of warranty claims, transactional disputes to commercial disputes under PFI contracts or supplier arrangements.

 

  • The Head of Dispute Resolution will be required to ‘nail their colours to the mast’ in their litigation advice to benefit the business and allow it to take cost effective and strategic decisions as early as possible
  • Managing a team of five disputes lawyers.
  • Provide training to the business on an ad hoc basis and in a more structured format
  • Approach the role as a business partner and develop excellent working relationships with senior management teams across the business to inspire trust and respect in advice given
  • Manage external legal counsel, optimising use of resources and negotiating cost effective fee arrangements

Who are we looking for?

  • English qualified solicitor with minimum 10 years PQE in commercial litigation and alternative dispute resolution, including adjudication, arbitration, and mediation.  We will be flexible depending on the quality of experience. Experience in both private practice and in-house roles preferred.
  • Strong commercial approach and proven technical ability to formulate advice succinctly and communicate it effectively orally or in writing.
  • A robust personality able to provide independent advice in a fast-moving business environment with multiple commercial pressures and deadlines.
  • A strong leader able to manage a high-performing team of experts with a willingness to take ‘ownership’ of role and make a genuine contribution to the business.
