Project Overview

Bechtel National, Inc. (BNI), Bechtel’s government services business, is one of the top providers to departments and agencies of the U.S. and British governments. Its successes include many large, first-of-a-kind projects in government site management, environmental restoration, defense, space, energy, and national and homeland security. Bechtel currently manages the Mobile Launcher 2 (ML2) project at Kennedy Space Center, FL. The ML2 project involves the design and construction of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) launch platform for the Space Launch System (SLS), an advanced launch vehicle that will fill America’s need for deep space missions. ML2 includes many different subsystems that must operate and fit within the constraints of the structure and provide a physical interface with KSC launch sites’ ground systems.

Position Summary

The essential duties of the Senior Pipe Support Engineer include designing supports for various piping systems and performing associated calculations. This position will work closely with layout personnel and pipe stress engineers to deliver a quality and cost-effective design. Additionally, this position will coordinate with other engineering disciplines and vendors as required.

The ideal candidate should be familiar with common pipe support hardware, industry standards, and relevant codes such as AISC & ASME B31.3. Prior experience should include working in a 3D model environment.

Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications:

Level 1: BS degree in engineering with a minimum of 6 years’ experience.

Level 2: BS degree in engineering with a minimum of 9 years’ experience.

US Citizenship is required.

Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen, and background check.

Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge of ASME B31.1 and/or B31.3 piping codes.

Prior experience using a pipe support structural analysis program.

Preferred Qualifications:

GT Strud or STAAD frame analysis experience.

Prior experience modeling pipe supports in a 3D model.

PE Registration.

Previous Bechtel project experience.
