Summary

Do you want to help shape the future of digital delivery across the Civil Service?

We are looking to recruit Data Architects to embed their technical expertise and fulfil the strategic data needs across a number of key departments. We have roles available within MoD, DfT, DIT, FCDO ,HMRC, HO, Defra, DWP and Cabinet Office.

To be successful in these roles you will have a depth of domain knowledge with data architecture and adjacent disciplines, coupled with exemplary stakeholder management skills and a desire to drive change.

As a Data Architect, you will work with data practitioners and product teams to make better use of anonymised data to improve user experience of government services. You'll design and build data models to meet strategic data needs and design, support and provide guidance for managing, improving and archiving data in compliance with data policy.

***All Data Architects will need to acquire or hold Counter Terrorist Check (CTC) as a minimum. Candidates posted to certain Departments may be subject to a higher level of clearance (Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV)) because of the security requirements for that Department. Job offers to these posts are made on the basis of merit. For the minimum CTC, you must have resided in the UK for a minimum of 3 out of the past 5 years. Job description

As a Data Architect you'll:

• design and implement data collection and reporting systems

• work with other data practitioners, including data scientists and data engineers, to analyse current data models and interpret user requirements in order to build or adapt data models and metadata systems

• provide technical guidance for data management, data quality and the reporting, including secure data handling

• improve the programme's understanding of our data architecture and advising product teams on management of data product life cycles

• work with technical architects, data practitioners, tech writers, and others to develop and record architectural standards and processes

• present to senior stakeholders with various levels of technical understanding/data literacy

Responsibilities

Essential criteria you will need to demonstrate as part of your application and further assessed at interview:

• (Data Architecture) You need to understand how to design and model (conceptual, logical, physical) data in both on-prem (legacy) and cloud-first contexts.

• (Data design) You can work with business and technology stakeholders to identify solutions in data design that solve business problems by removing pain points and/or areas of friction in the data architecture landscape. You can create optimal designs through iterative processes in consultation with business Subject Matter Experts, aligning user needs with organisational objectives and system requirements.

• (Metadata) You understand a variety of meta/reference data management tools. You can design and maintain the appropriate metadata repositories to enable the organisation to understand their data assets.

• (Data standards) You can develop and implement standards for an organisation. You can work effectively with other subject matter experts in the and data management best practises in areas such as information security, data anonymisation and/or data privacy.

• (Data Innovation) You recognise and exploit business opportunities to ensure more efficient and effective performance of organisations. You explore new ways of conducting business and organisational processes, this will include appropriate approaches for data integration and migration including use of external data sets.

• (Data design) You can create optimal designs through iterative processes, aligning user needs with organisational objectives and system requirements.
