Job Description

The Mars Wrigley North American Governance & Controls (G&C) Manager is responsible for ensuring proper internal controls and processes are in place throughout the business segment with specific focus on the supply organization.  The purpose of this role is to business partner with stakeholders throughout the organization to design an effective and efficient internal control structure in a rapidly changing environment, embed digital processes and automation into the monitoring of controls, assess whether the business segment has gaps in internal controls and support designing solutions to mitigate those gaps. This role partners with multiple stakeholders including the Mars Wrigley North American Financial Controller, the Supply Finance organization, Segment G&C partners, SFO, internal auditors and PwC.

Key Responsibilities

  • Business partnering to design an efficient and effective internal control structure for the Supply organization in a constantly changing environment.
  • Business partnering to design appropriate safeguards to the quality of accounts and reporting considering digitization and change in ways of working in the organization.
  • Developing and/or implementing digital solutions to effectively monitor and report on the business unit’s internal control effectiveness.
  • Assessment of design or operating effectiveness gaps in internal controls.
  • Business partnering to design efficient and effective solutions to mitigate gaps identified.
  • Stakeholder management and customer service for varying stakeholders from those with little to no internal controls knowledge to experts. Further, stakeholder management is required with varying levels of the organization including visibility to the Mars, Inc. Financial Controller and segment Financial Controller.
  • Facilitation, driving alignment and clarity between internal audit or PwC and our business partners.
  • Primary support for MGSF controls monitoring, follow up and improvement.
  • Address Finance Manual questions related to internal controls and drive compliance.
  • Implement G&C training and communication.
  • Remediate and report R25s.
  • Support ad hoc projects as needed.

Context and Scope

The Mars Wrigley North American Governance & Controls Manager will work closely with the Supply organization that exists within the North American businesses to develop efficient and effective internal controls.  Further, partnership with our shared service center will be necessary to understand the internal control processes and tools that are being rolled out centrally and interpret them effectively to implement them within the Mars Wrigley North American organization.  The Associate will be required to use strong business partnering with those internal and external to the cluster to design an end-to-end effectively designed and effectively operating internal control structure.  This role requires partnership with multiple stakeholders to ensure associates across the business operations are adequately trained and in compliance with governance and control requirements.  This role serves as the key point of contact for auditors focusing on demand operations.  The G&C Manager will also be responsible maintaining existing controls and continuous improvements, influencing greater efficiencies through digital and streamlined processes.   

Job Specifications/Qualifications

1. Education & Professional Qualification

  • University degree in Accounting or equivalent field of study (Required)
  • 3+ years of audit experience (Required)
  • CPA or other professional certification (Preferred) 
  • Graduate level degree (Preferred)
  • SAP Experience or Equivalent ERP system (Preferred)

2. Knowledge/Experience

  • Good policy, process, and control-orientation and experience with the ability to drive standards
  • Understanding in technical accounting requirements with regard to US GAAP and trade promotions
  • Good written and verbal communication skills 
  • Presence in front of senior leadership
  • Experience with documenting, evaluating, and testing controls
  • Experience with identifying, tracking and resolving control gaps
  • Business partnership experience and an ability to create control/process solutions
  • Digitally savvy, with strong user and problem-centric approach
  • Good analytical skills
