Job Description

Global Transport Manager

Wilhelmsen Ships Service Marine Products is looking for a Global Transport Manager. In this position you are responsible for managing the contracts, SLA's and relationships with the transport companies that take care of our international (internal) transport.

Wilhelmsen Ships Service Marine Products is on the brink of a transition from transactional logistics to logistics as a concept. Are you the person who takes the lead in this? Then you are the person we are looking for!

About Wilhelmsen

Founded in Norway in 1861, Wilhelmsen is now a comprehensive global maritime group providing over half of the merchant fleet with essential products and services, along with supplying crew and technical management to the largest and most complex vessels ever to sail. Committed to shaping the maritime industry, we also seek to explore and develop new opportunities within the renewables, offshore and energy industries. Supporting a diverse and inclusive workplace, with thousands of colleagues in more than 70 countries, we take competence, sustainability, innovation, and unparalleled customer experiences one step further.

About the Marine Products Division

The people at Wilhelmsen don’t just hold jobs here. They make the most innovative ideas a reality – and in the process, they shape the maritime industry. With one of the largest maritime networks in the world, we do work that makes an impact - if it floats, our products are probably on it.

Supplying marine consumables, products, and solutions to every conceivable vessel type, our Marine Products division includes the Unitor brand of products, Timm ropes, Unicool refrigerants, and Unitor and Nalfleet marine chemicals. Last year we made product deliveries to 27,500 vessels, at over 2,000 ports.

What you will be doing:

In this role, you will be responsible for negotiating, evaluating and optimising Wilhelmsen's agreements and collaborations with external transport companies. These suppliers take care of our international transport which is done by all possible modalities. You ensure that the freight rates are in line with the market, the agreements are complied with, any risks are mapped out and the relationships are maintained. To support you in this, you monitor the KPI dashboard and assess the internal needs for transport capacity; you use the input to make improved agreements. You are therefore the link between the operational departments and suppliers.

In order to make the transition to logistics as a concept, you will investigate the current use of suppliers, suggest improvements and implement them within the organisation. In doing so, you have an eye for sustainability and optimisation of the usage.

In this role, you will report to the Global Operations Director and you will work from the office in Rotterdam, from home or visiting one of the suppliers.

Who you are:

We are looking for a decisive and analytically strong person, who knows how to differentiate between the main and the secondary subjects. You are able to build and maintain good relationships with both suppliers and internal stakeholders.

When introducing improvement suggestions, you enjoy taking a leading role and motivating your colleagues to initiate change.

Given the international nature of the position, you are willing to travel for visits to suppliers and colleagues abroad.

Required experience and skills:

  • A bachelor's degree or work experience at a demonstrated level
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar role
  • Good command of the English language in word and writing
  • Knowledge and command of software systems, (MS Office) Excel is a must.
  • Able to work together internationally, both internally and with suppliers.
  • Knowledge of Dangerous Goods (DG and/or IMDG) is an advantage.

What we offer:

  • An attractive salary based on knowledge and experience
  • A job for 40 hours per week with flexible working hours between 07:00 – 19:00 hours and the possibility to partly work from home.
  • You enjoy 30 holiday days per year.
  • 8.2% holiday allowance.
  • A laptop and mobile phone that you can also use privately.
  • A modern office with the most up-to-date facilities.
  • You participate in our pension scheme with excellent conditions.
  • You participate in collective employee insurances such as disability and life insurance
  • With our training and development opportunities (internal and external), you can develop both personal skills and product and professional knowledge. You also get unlimited access to LinkedIn Learning with an endless amount of training courses.
  • An active staff association in which you can undertake other fun activities with your colleagues in addition to your work.
