As an expert in Total Rewards, this role supports Global Mars Vet Health division by architecting, managing, and implementing a robust total rewards strategy and roadmap in support of MVH's people strategy, as well as the broader Global Petcare Segment’s strategy. In this role, comprised of both Compensation and Benefits, this role will understand the business and market context for MVH businesses globally, their people and talent strategies, current rewards practices within these units and Mars overall, as well as relevant and innovative and emerging market trends.

Mars Vet Health is currently a 75,000 Associate business with significant hospital and laboratory operations in North America, Europe and emerging business as well as significant M&A activity in Asia and Latin America, with payroll representing more than half of the current $10B revenues. It is a major division within Mars Global Petcare Segment and critical component of the Petcare ecosystem.

The Associate manages regional teams to partner with key stakeholders to shape future state for these operating units with respect to the Compensation and Benefits strategy and in-depth roadmap, to reflect future capability transformations, workforce trends and generational needs. The Associate will also partner closely with other P&O teams to ensure that total rewards is closely integrated within MVH’s broader talent agenda; they will also collaborate with colleagues across the Petcare segment and Mars enterprise to support segment and enterprise priorities.

Through expertise, serves as a trusted thought partner and sounding board for MVH Senior Leaders in designing Total Rewards programs that attract, retain and motivate veterinary workforce and align to the MVH business strategy. This role is responsible for the organization and implementation of multiple complex priorities balanced with the immediate needs of the dynamic obligations of the business units. Collaborates with MVH data analytics teams on compensation and benefit modelling and program status tracking. Conducts ongoing ROI reviews of program success and effectiveness and alignment with evolving business objectives and lead program enhancements.

The individual is a member of MVH POLT, US BSG and works with multiple levels of stakeholders both in MVH, Mars, Inc, to include governance bodies, TR functions and RTC.

This role will be based in the U.S., with location flexible. (Preferably near a Mars hub site).

What are we looking for?

  • Bachelor's or higher Degree in HR or analytical field required. MBA preferred
  • Professional certifications related to Rewards, HR, Law and/or Finance/Accounting a plus
  • 15+ years of experience in Compensation and Benefits, ideally with deep concentration in US and EU benefits design and working in a consultative-type environment
  • Experience working in and/or with service-related businesses, with a strong preference for those in veterinary and other health care services
  • In-depth understanding of rewards practices, in particular long-term incentive design, executive rewards, and mergers & acquisitions. 
  • Global understanding and multi-country experience required
  • High degree of business acumen, strong analytical skills and process orientation
  • Successful management and coordination of project teams
  • Proven senior-level communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Highly collaborative style, with strong consultative and customer-oriented skills
  • Navigates complex personalities, relationships and organization dynamics.

What would be your key responsibilities?

Planning:

  • Delivers Total Rewards programs as drivers of cultural change of the Mars Vet Health Employer Brand and Employer Brand Proposition
  • Responsible for setting Compensation and Benefits philosophies and strategies in support of the Mars Vet Health and Mars businesses, culture, people objectives and goals
  • Scope includes non-traditional compensation and benefit programs that are, however, part of MVH business strategy and model (e.g., time away, continuing education, associate discounts, etc.)
  • Influencing and working with multiple TR teams, architects and orchestrates innovative planning of Total Rewards programs from prioritization, tracking, resourcing and cost estimation, project milestones and engagement for delivery across the enterprise, leveraging the tools, practices and resources available or identifies needs for enhancements
  • Advises and supports the in-depth design of critical rewards processes
  • Focuses on constant innovation to ensure that all benefit and compensation programs remain competitive, sustainable, scalable, and positively impact the short and long-term performance of the organization.

Functional & Team Communications:

  • Plays a crucial role articulating the MVH vision, mission, strategy and tactical expectations through communication channels, reaching the leadership teams, and critical internal partners and stakeholders
  • Influences direction and strategy development through on-going communications with senior leadership
  • Supports the delivery of highly effective and engaging communications to ensure stakeholders understand the rewards offering, are motivated by them and understand how they are linked with performance
  • Uses expertise to lead the vet health industry by external speaking and conference presentations
  • Identifies opportunities to leverage both internal and external best practices across the various operating units
