Role Responsibilities

Bristol Meyers Squibb has committed to a 5-stage Global Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) process to support the mission to discover, develop, and deliver innovative medicines that help patients prevail over serious diseases.  The S&OP process at BMS is an enterprise-wide integrated business planning process to manage the delivery of its business goals and commitments over the 3 year operational and 5 year strategic planning horizons.  The further development and deployment of the BMS S&OP process will require both implementation of a business transformation program as well as leadership (and ownership) of the global operating model.  The BMS S&OP process needs to evolve globally from the supply-chain focus of demand-supply to a cross-functionally aligned and integrated process that consistently engages the key functions of Commercial Marketing, Sales, Supply Chain, Finance, and R&D.  The newly formed Global S&OP business process owner role is essential to the develop and implement the business transformation program. The Director, Global S&OP Business Process Owner is the critical leadership role for this new function.

The Director, Global S&OP Business Process Owner is a senior-level position who has experience in leading implementations of S&OP globally as an integrated business planning process.  This position will be accountable for all aspects of developing and managing the implementation of the global S&OP program to drive continuous improvement by leveraging best practices across all 5 stages of the S&OP Process – Demand/Forecast Review, Supply Review, Product/Project Portfolio Review, Integrated Reconciliation (S&OP) and Executive Review (eS&OP).   This includes managing the global aggregation and facilitating meetings to assure business conflicts are raised and resolved during the pre-S&OP meetings, or referred to executive meeting for resolution, and providing training and feedback to the businesses and regions on process improvements that will impact business improvements.  This position will have shared goals, business metrics and KPIs with the S&OP Leadership in all regions. These goals, business metrics and KPIs will be defined in the agreed-to global S&OP Process transformation roadmap.
Responsibility Details

  • Global S&OP Transformation Roadmap: Define and lead the multi-year transformation roadmap in collaboration with S&OP leadership in the global and regional teams including CIO, Commercial and Supply Chain Finance, Commercial and Supply Chain Operations.  Gain executive leadership and senior-level leadership alignment with the transformation roadmap. Refresh the roadmap in conjunction with the 3-year strategic planning process. The roadmap will encompass cross-functional projects which will deliver a significant transformation program including -
  • Development and delivery of core and lead KPIs, developed with external best practices
  • Systems functionality driven by the process design and knowledge of advancements in digital technology
  • Organization change management, defining new ways of working and talent development & training based on the implementation of process and system improvements
  • S&OP Improvement Program Management & Execution: Collaborating with S&OP functional leaders to manage the implementation the projects defined in the aforementioned roadmap. Providing regular updates on the projects to the steering committees and to the ELT.
  • S&OP Integrated Planning Process Execution: Collaborate with Supply Chain and Commerical Finance Leadership Team and IT on the integration of the S&OP Process within the BMS integrated planning ecosystem; namely, the connectivity of S&OP with the 3-year operations planning and 3-5 year strategic planning processes
  • Best Practices & External Benchmarking: Developing and leveraging a professional network to identify best practices as an essential approach to continuously improve BMS S&OP capabilities globally. Assess BMS’ S&OP capabilities against external benchmarks as a critical input to drive continuous improvement.
  • Business Process Ownership: Decision-maker on BMS’ S&OP Process design and technology, including standard definition of KPIs and metrics.
  • Continuous Improvement: Leveraging business metrics and KPIs to define improvement opportunities. Support the development of the business case required for project approval, which will include IT and resource investments.

This position will report to the Executive Director, Global Supply Chain Integration and Strategy,  S&OP.  Matrix based leadership across the following positions will be required:

  • Director, Business process owner demand planning and analytics
  • Director, Business process owner supply panning & analytics
  • Executive Director, therapy / brand integrated product strategy
  • Executive Director, global planning therapy / brand leaders

This position will work directly with the executive S&OP teams (EVPs), Global S&OP teams (SVPs and VPs) and Supply,  Forecast, and Strategy  Teams (Exec Dir), coaching and assuring the right business topics are being raised and addressed through the business review processes.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 10+ years of demonstrated operational performance in leading S&OP Process for a major Business Unit in the pharma industry
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain and/or Engineering
  • Demonstrated performance in improving S&OP processes
  • Passionate leader with proven experience resolving conflict and ability to influence without authority
  • Ability to simplify the complex
  • Develop and communicate complex with simple visuals
  • Strong knowledge in digital technology
  • Outstanding capabilities in coaching and developing supply chain talent
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
    • Highly collaborative and development of business partnerships
    • Strong verbal and written communications
    • Highly effective conflict resolution
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Exceptional facilitation skills
  • Experience working with executive LT and global SC leaders required
  • Attention to detail and accuracy

What Will Put You Ahead

  • MBA or Master’s degree
  • Manufacturing and supply chain operations experience
  • Six Sigma or other process improvement knowledge/experience
