Role Title: Global Markets Financial Resources Analyst
Level: Analyst or Associate
Role Purpose:
The MSS FRM team, within the Global Markets Management Office, oversees Financial Resources deployed within MSS. This includes: liquidity, funding, leverage and Risk Weighted Assets / Capital. The team’s primary objective is to ensure that these finite Financial Resources are deployed efficiently and effectively to business lines, initiatives, and significant transactions. The team contributes towards forward projection and forecasting of resource requirements with respect to structural business changes, market movements and regulatory change, and monitors progress against targets agreed with Business Line Heads.
The role holder will play a key role in guiding & controlling Financial Resource utilization by Business lines within MSS, and ensure that MSS operates effectively and efficiently within constraints of capital and liquidity of the entity.
MSS FRM is accountable for:
• Delivering accurate Financial Resources information to Global Markets Senior Management
• Implementing and operating a framework for Financial Resource allocation that aligns to the Markets strategy
• Driving effective balance-sheet management across the region based on asset/liability returns/costs; and overseeing the implementation of the ALCM funding framework across MSS’ product pricing
• MSS’ Funding Mandate with Markets Treasury
• Managing MSS interaction with legal entities’ ALCM in a controlled process to optimize the use of the local entities balance-sheet and contribute to stress testing undertaken either at HBEU level or MSS level
Principal Accountabilities:
Impact on the Business
• The implementation of ALCM Liquidity and Capital policy directly impacts Global Market and drives the size and composition of the balance-sheet.
• Implementation of Regulatory liquidity metrics (Basel) creates a dynamic price discovery mechanism.
• Understand GM’s stressed positions to optimize balance sheet and returns.
Typical KPIs and Targets
• Contribute to and support a robust Governance and Financial Resource allocation framework for MSS, subject to ongoing challenge by second line of defense
• Detailed analysis and investigation into key drivers of Risk Weighted Assets, Leverage Exposure, and Liquidity
• Supporting the transfer pricing of Liquidity (and other Financial Resources where relevant) to MSS business lines
• Advise on funds transfer pricing to price customer’s products.
• Proactively advise traders and structures of regulatory changes to correctly price new products.
Customers / Stakeholders
Working with the MSS Management team to optimize MSS’ Financial Resources and Balance-Sheet usage across desks in line with entity (ALCM) policies.
Skills & Experience
• Masters degree in Finance, Applied Mathematics, Statistics or equivalent
• Strong technical/analytical skills and an understanding products offered by MSS
• Background in or understanding of: Trading, Structuring, Risk Management, Balance Sheet Management, Capital Management, or Asset Liability and Capital Management
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders
• Demonstrate ability to build a broad and diverse network of positive working relationships and to develop strong and lasting partnerships with key stakeholders
• High degree of self-motivation to achieve results inspiring trust in others
• Ability to critically review and challenge numbers
