Job Purpose and Impact

Cargill Procurement and Transportation (CPT) is a global organization that strives to strategically source and leverage Cargill’s indirect spend; this indirect spend spans Plant Materials and Services (MRO, Capital, Plant Services, etc); Corporate Material and Services (travel, IT, HR, etc); Direct Materials (Chemicals, Packaging; and Ingredients). The CPT team is responsible for managing over 9 billion in spend.

The Global Category Lead Food Processing and Packaging position is accountable for the integration between the direct materials procurement, packaging technology procurement and the food processing and packaging capability center, business units and packaging innovation and development teams. The role is accountable for identifying strategic opportunities and build strong pipeline that is aligned with business objectives and Cargills functions goals.

In this role you will develop and successfully execute our category sourcing strategy globally and regionally using best practices to align with key partners. In this role, you will maximize profitability for a category of products by aligning pricing, selection and promotions with the supplier's profit margin.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide the strategic direction for the packaging materials and packaging technology portfolio to deliver commercial opportunities (new package introduction and new technology introduction that will support top line growth and bottom line result).
  • Develop and implement the overall short and long term category sourcing strategy in line with business objectives globally and regionally.
  • Provide category expertise to internal and external senior stakeholders to cultivate strong partnership, align and lead strategy changes and drive continuous improvement for defined category management.
  • Closely interacting and aligning with the different function holders of the global capability centers structure: Manufacturing Technology (MT), SMART Manufacturing, Packaging Innovation & Development (PI&D), Financial Analyst and Business Stakeholders.
  • Clearly articulates the global packaging and processing capability center vision and objectives, both internally and externally.
  • Foster key regional supplier relationships by resolving implementation issues and leading major negotiations or workshops with suppliers.
  • Engage senior stakeholders and category buyers to execute category strategy.
  • Lead category portfolio management by defining performance measurement standards and standardizing procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Provide expert thought leadership in your field and work with limited direction, using additional research and interpretation to identify issues or problems. You may provide direction to supporting team members and be a strategic contributor.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, procurement, supply chain, engineering or related degree program
  • 10+ years relevant experience in supply chain, procurement, packaging technology and food processing
  • Experience leading global and regional projects, aligning stakeholders and driving category initiatives
  • Experience in supplier consolidation and driving spend to preferred suppliers
  • Experience overseeing the implementation of key supplier management programs including metrics, performance goals and improvement initiatives
  • Minimum of six years of related work experience
  • Other minimum qualifications may apply

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior experience in sourcing and procurement
  • Technical knowledge on food processing, packaging materials and packaging technology
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the market, suppliers and cost drivers and incorporating into strategies that drives results
  • Demonstrated ability of strategic thinking – ability to move from broad to specific content
  • Strong financial, mathematical, modeling and analytical skills
  • Persuasive change agent capable of challenging status quo
