Position : Geographic Information Systems Advisor

As the Geographic Information Systems Advisor with Art Malawi, you will support to establish a GIS database in order to highlight culturally relevant locations in Malawi using data collected by the organization. In this role, you will provide mentoring support to the organization to enable them to map future sites in the arts and tourism sector.

Roles and Responsibilities:
- Support the mapping of culturally significant places in Blantyre, as identified by ArtMalawi
- Support the mapping of permaculture initiatives in the Blantyre and southern region of Malawi
- Develop trainings and workshops to build the capacity of the organization in GIS, and train rangers working with ArtMalawi
- Participate in pre-assignment training
- Participate in at least 3 public engagement initiatives before, during, or after the assignment. Volunteers will be equipped with the tools, training, and support to achieve these goals. Volunteers will also have one virtual check-in with the Public Engagement Officer throughout the course of their assignment
- Set up a personalized volunteer fundraising page on the WUSC fundraising platform and share it in your networks. Volunteers will be supported with the tools, training and support to achieve the fundraising goal
- Ensure that a gender equality lens is consistently applied in the execution of all activities
- Support partners to empower young women and promote a culture of gender sensitive representation in all activities and program benefits.
- Submit reports as required by the partner organization and by WUSC.
Required profile for job ad : Geographic Information Systems Advisor
- Degree and/or training in geographic information systems, computer science or other related field
- Practical knowledge of principles, practices, terminology, and trends in GIS usage
- Ability to query and edit Computer Assisted Dispatch system data
- Knowledge of GIS applications of and ability to use mini and micro computers
- A commitment to gender equality, youth inclusion, and international volunteering
- Flexibility, adaptability, excellent interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity
- Experience with group facilitation and trainings, including content development considered an asset
- Experience living and working internationally considered an asset.
- Written and oral fluency in English.
