Job Description

This is a very special role to work in a garden with ambition to develop and grow. We can provide you with the opportunity to demonstrate your horticultural skills in our varied gardens. Be that herbaceous borders, seasonal bedding, vegetables, herbs and fruit, propagation. Roses and shrubs, spring bulbs, wildflower meadow, lawn care, ponds and lakes. Its all here to work with!

 Joining the outdoor team, you will be working with the current Gardener and closely with the Ranger team, we all support each other caring for our magnificent estate. As a team we work hard to cover the vast variety of work but the rewards of providing a beautiful haven to our many visitors and nature drives us forward, always looking to improve and develop and never standing still.

 Volunteers are essential to the success of the property and make us what we are, you will be knowledgeable in identifying and programming their work, developing their skills and recruiting new volunteers when required with the support of our volunteer officer.

 This a full-time position, working weekends as department duty manager for the garden and park as part of a rota.

The salary is circa Â£23,000 but will depend on experience and the many skills we think a gardener should have.

Who we're looking for

To be successful in this role you should be able to demonstrate the below:

  • Trained as a professional gardener/horticulturalist with a good level of practical experience.
  • RHS Level 2 or equivalent.
  • Have proven practical gardening/horticulture experience, as well as a strong knowledge of plants
  • Confidence to participate in garden activities and events
  • Competence with machinery/equipment use and maintenance; including tractors, chainsaws, and pedestrian mowers with accreditation as required for Health and Safety compliance.
