ROLE PURPOSE:
Save the Children seeks a Warehouse Assistant for a USDA McGovern-Dole International Food for Education and Child Nutrition Program. LEARN II will reach 85,129 pre-primary and primary school children in 234 schools, along with educators, Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs), government, the private sector, and communities. LEARN II will work in four counties (Grand Bassa, Grand Gedeh, River Cess, and River Gee).
The Warehouse Assistant works with urban and rural communities at the grass root level to facilitate the delivery and appropriate use of commodities in school feeding program activities. This includes working in closely with LEARN II Commodity team members to ensure food assistance commodities are successfully transported from the SC (sub-) warehouses to the school storerooms.
In addition to this, the Warehouse Assistant is a key link between the SC Warehouse/Commodity Management Teams, the candidate works to ensure that commodities are received at the primary/secondary warehouse and dispatch to various schools. S/he is accountable for commodities at the primary/secondary warehouse' and adherence to the program design and conform the warehouse is meeting expected minimum standard at all time.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
As a member of the LEARN Team, this position's role is to:
Warehouse Operations
- Always assist the Warehouse Officer and ensure that receipts and dispatches of commodities are accurately recorded, accounted, and all related data are assembled and filed properly.
- Complete all ledgers and stack cards records on time and input related data properly entered into Taro Works on time
- Closely work with loading, offloading and stacking group and ensure adequate space and staking layout is respected as per the standard
- Report immediately when noticed loss/damage or gains of commodities to Warehouse Officer and also place on Datix when you have any suspension or misuse on commodities resource.
- Conduct the correctness of all incoming and outgoing commodities using stroke tally sheet for each waybill transaction
- Ensure that the warehouse is clean, safe and well ventilated all the time and closely work cleaners, crew assistants to ensure high performance standard
- Comply with all relevant Save the Children policies and procedures with respect to child safeguarding, safety and security, code of conduct, equal opportunities and other relevant policies
- Actively contribute to the review of Save the Children warehouse standards and procedures, to support efficiency and make sure the physical inventory is align with book balance and other warehouse record.
- Work in collaboration with warehouse Officer on effective planning and management of warehouse operations, to ensure safe and efficient warehousing and storage of all commodities and supplies.
- Perform any other duties or tasks as delegated or assigned by your supervisor
Transport and Delivery of Commodities
- Monitor and verify the activities of 3rd party transporters to limit commodity loss or diversion during dispatch to schools from SC (sub-) warehouses.
- Ensure the correct quantity of commodities arrives to each school detailed in the delivery order and that the commodity is in good condition.
- Facilitate and document receipts of food items from transporters to the school officials
- Clearly document any damaged commodities resulting from transportation in a manner that will allow for easy reconstruction of events and allow for SC to recoup any financial losses from the transporter.
Monthly Monitoring of Commodities
- Monitor to ensure a clean and safe workhouse for staff to work in
- Monitor to ensure that trucks transporting food commodities to the schools arrive safely.
- Monitor Storing stock away safely.
- Monitoring stock levels.
Monitor and accurately updating all data into computer and manual recording systems.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential
- Minimum education, high School diploma, or above with accounting, business management or related qualification is highly preferred.
- Prior experience in humanitarian or international development programming with at least 2 years field experience in school feeding or development food assistance warehousing/commodity management
- Understanding of transportation and distribution best-practices
- Ability to collect data and compile accurate reports documenting commodity handling and distribution details
- Good communication skills with the rural community members, local and traditional leaders, good planning, reporting functions.
- Understanding of basic risk management practices
- Experience working in a remote areas
- Excellent written and spoken English
- Experience of Excel and other specialist stock tracking software.
- Have excellent numeracy, literacy and organisational skills
Desirable:
- Previous experience in WFP, USDA or USAID/FFP school feeding programmes
- Understanding of basic supply chain principles
