Job Description
Position Overview:
The Superintendent is responsible for managing, coordinating, and administering the project from planning through procurement, construction, and turn-over. Supervises the development of budgets and schedules, manages performance, reports progress, and initiates action to assure program/project objectives and schedules are met and work is performed within budget and according to specifications. Resolves problems and coordinates the final turnover of work to downstream work activities. Provides leadership for the development and maintenance of a high-performance project team. Has overall responsibility for scope execution, ensuring that Program/Project is delivered within contract requirements, standards of quality and safety and to Customer and Bechtel performance expectations. Ensures assigned construction operations and contractors’ performance are in compliance with specifications and within schedules and budgets.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for supervising and directing craft operations within assigned disciplines or areas. Supervises and directs Craft activities, subordinate superintendents, and others, as assigned. Ensures assigned construction operations and subcontractors’ performance is in compliance with specifications and within schedules and budget performs general functions inherent in all supervisory field positions
- Coordinate with various discipline Superintendents, General Foreman, and Foreman to determine equipment requirements
- Schedule work to be performed, supervise in-process activities, and review work accomplished
- Prepare equipment maintenance schedules
- Prepare material requisitions for tools and consumables
- Supervise and direct subordinate personnel and craft in equipment support activities within various disciplines
- Prepare craft requisitions and forecasts, job manpower forecasts and expenditure forecasts
- Develop and work plans and activities. Implements procedures to ensure construction operations are continuously adhering to engineering designs, specifications, quality standards, schedules and budget
- Responsible for the implementation of corporate/project policies, procedures and instructions within assigned discipline operations
- Coordinates field activities with other disciplines
- Ensure that all State and Federal safety codes, requirements, and standards are being complied within assigned area of responsibility
Additional Responsibilities:
- Will be responsible for executing work assignments as requested by the Area Superintendents and Project Field Engineer.
- Provide leadership for safety, accident and fire prevention on the project. This includes safety orientation, preparation of safety procedures and leading Bechtel and subcontractor safety meetings.
- Responsible for supervising and directing contractor(s) in a supervisory capacity within the civil discipline. Coordinate with General Foreman to hire civil craft labor to execute work.
- Ensure the most current design document specifying civil commodities such as concrete, steel and excavation is provided to a subcontractor to complete work, and that all design changes are approved prior to implementation.
- Prepare reports and forecasts, including a summary of construction progress, craft personnel forecasts, and expenditures forecasts.
- Responsible for implementing corporate project policies, procedures and instructions within assigned civil operations.
- Plan the manpower and equipment required to execute the job.
Qualifications and Skills
Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5-10 years of relevant work experience.
- Have a working knowledge of structural construction operations, construction surveying, excavation and backfill operations, and concrete installation.
- Technical knowledge of drainage on infrastructure projects, including open-cut excavation, trenching, grading and general construction work in and around sensitive watercourses.
- Knowledge of construction technologies.
- Knowledge of supervisory functions relating to field activities.
- Familiarity with current industry quality standards.
- Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H). Demonstrable commitment to a Zero Accident safety program.
