The successful candidate in this position will play a critical role within the Tax Department and will be involved in multiple aspects of U.S. income tax compliance, with the primary focus being international tax compliance. This position will report directly to the Senior Manager of U.S. Tax Compliance and requires a solid technical knowledge of U.S. international income tax provisions related to Global Intangible Low-Taxed Income (GILTI), Subpart F, and foreign tax credits. This role will also support the annual and quarterly income tax provisions with analysis and computations related to U.S. international tax items. The position will work closely with the world-wide Corporate Tax group, along with Accounting, Finance, and Treasury groups to collect relevant information, thoughtfully align processes and procedures, reduce tax risks, and identify improvement opportunities. This role is also responsible for supporting the preparation of Canadian income tax returns and tax provisions. In addition, the position will assist with income tax audits and special tax projects as necessary.
Role Responsibilities
- Prepare U.S. international tax forms including 5471, 8858, 8865, 1118, 8991-8993, etc.
- Prepare computations and perform analysis, research, and modeling related to GILTI, Subpart F, Foreign Tax Credit, FDII, BEAT, and various other international tax provisions.
- Assist with annual and quarterly income tax provision calculations and analysis, primarily related to U.S. international tax items.
- Conduct research in federal and international tax matters.
- Prepare workpapers to support Canadian income tax returns and estimated tax payments.
- Assist in the review of Transfer Pricing documentation and related support for the U.S. and Canada.
- Assist in the review of Form 1042 and W-8 series forms.
- Assist with Federal, state, and Canadian income tax audits as necessary.
Qualifications & Experience
- Undergraduate degree in Accounting, or in Finance with an accounting emphasis.
- 4+ years of experience with public accounting firm or large multi-national corporation.
- Strong background and experience with U.S. international income tax compliance.
- Experience performing tax research and documenting tax positions.
- Sound judgment and ability to provide recommendations toward process improvement.
- Detail orientation, integrity, self-motivation, and a hands-on approach to problem solving are required.
- Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills, as well as project management, planning, and human relations’ skills.
- Strong commitment and ability to work cooperatively in a team environment is paramount.
- Appetite for developing others to strengthen the team and provide mentoring of staff.
- Comfortable interacting at all levels in the organization.
- Comfortable with ambiguity, problem solving and decision making.
- Proficient at Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Accounting and / or CPA.
- Experience with a financial reporting system, preferably SAP and EPM.
- Experience with a tax reporting software system, preferably OneSource.
- Experience with accounting for income taxes is a plus.
