Project Overview
Bechtel National, Inc. (BNI), Bechtel’s government services business, is one of the top providers to departments and agencies of the U.S. and British governments. Its successes include many large, first-of-a-kind projects in government site management, environmental restoration, defense, space, energy, and national and homeland security. This position will provide support to the Uranium Processing Facility (UPF) located at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. UPF will be will be built by 2025 for $6.5 billion and will be a first-of-its-kind complex for enriched uranium operations in support of Y-12 missions. UPF is one of the Department of Energy’s largest investments in Tennessee since the Manhattan Project and one of the National Nuclear Security Administration’s largest construction projects. When complete, UPF will: replace a 70-year-old facility with modern buildings, reduce operational costs and energy consumption, improve worker safety, and provide enriched uranium capabilities well into the future.
The UPF project works on a 9-80 schedule with every other Friday off. Start times are flexible but the standard work week is: Monday - Thursday from 7:00 am to 4:30 pm. The schedule on working Fridays is: 7:00am-3:30 pm.
Eligibility for this position requires US citizenship; successful candidate must provide proof of US citizenship in order to obtain badge access to the site. Candidate must complete security questionnaire and successfully clear site access requirements check. All employees are subject and agree to random drug and alcohol testing as a condition of employment. Must be able to obtain a security clearance, as applicable.
Position Summary
Electrical Physical (circuit and raceway) Designer responsible for raceway design, equipment location and layout, C&R schedule inputting and update using Setroute, conduit and raceway design. Works under the direction of more senior engineers/designers. Responsible to produce lower and higher tier – tier drawings and documentation in accordance with established conceptual design and scope, modelling, including cable pull calculations, design of lighting using AGI32, grounding layout, grounding designs/calculations and lightning protection systems. Develops specifications for equipment and material where deviation from standard documentation is required. Responsibilities also include ensuring that the electrical systems designs comply with all applicable installation codes, regulations and standards. May interface with Construction and Subcontractors. Must be a self-starter and capable of independent creative design, with direction, using Bechtel and industry proven concepts, and procedures. Must have proven 2D MicroStation CADD, SmartSketch and S3D skills for modelling and raceway design activities. Must have experience with an electronic Cable Management System, such as the SETROUTE program, perform lighting analysis using AGI32 and be able to input and complete corrections to the data base. Works under the direction of one or more senior engineers/EGS. Must be able to effectively communicate, and work well with others, other disciplines and within a team. Must know how to use computer programs such as the Microsoft WINDOWS suite of programs. Ability to cope with conflicting deadline, frequent interruptions and multiple tasks. Demonstrate leadership qualities with emphasis on continuous improvement and team building, and interpersonal communication skills.
