Job Description
Optimizes the overall performance of the lab at a specific site by monitoring the delivery of timely testing services, providing the necessary resources to ensure delivery of testing services, and client satisfaction. Provides management assistance to the various technical departments of the laboratory, other support services and functional areas, and leads by example in generating a culture of continuous operational improvement; responsible for delivery of services to meet client expectations.

Essential Job Duties:
- Managerial and Leadership duties and responsibilities:
- Facilitates the performance of the scientific departments located at the site.
- Has overall oversight and management of all support activities at the laboratory site to ensure consistency of management administration across all functional areas.
- Ensures that there are adequate resources, including personnel and equipment, necessary to meet quality standards, client deadlines and productions timelines.
- Oversees, contributes to, and facilitates the cooperative operational efforts of the laboratory’s technical departments to ensure continuous, effective production.
- Works directly with the VP Global Lab Operations, in the strategic planning and management of the global laboratory network to ensure operational excellence in the delivery of testing services.
- Strategy and Business Development:
- Leads the development of the site operating budget and supports and plans the capital budget development to ensure delivery of testing services.
- Develops and manages budgets, technology plans and tactical operational plans consistent with the execution of the laboratory’s strategic plan.
- Supports the generation of a reasonably accurate forecast of future workload for the site and the departmental activities at the site.
- Develops and monitors a consolidated operational scorecard to evaluate operational performance and effectiveness of the site in meeting defined deliverables.
- Facilitates and supports client visits, audits and inquiries so that they can be addressed in a timely and satisfactory manner.
- Performance Monitoring and Evaluation:
- Achieves client satisfaction by monitoring laboratory performance using tools to accurately assess delivery of testing services.
- Contributes to the VP Global Lab Operations’ evaluation of laboratory management staff, especially as it relates to observed managerial skills and the collegial and cooperative operation of an effective laboratory.
- Facilitates staff development through various internal and external training and educational programs designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of staff members.
- Utilizes the global laboratory information system to assess performance and quality of laboratory testing services and as a basis for reporting to internal customers.
- Evaluates production to and correct adverse trends in collaboration with the Department Director and escalates issues to the VP of Global Laboratory Operations as necessary.
- Ensures global regulatory compliance.

- Supports business development efforts; communicates overall capabilities through written materials, personal meetings and scientific conferences.
- Ensures client satisfaction with timely communications and by building cooperative relationships between the laboratory and other functional areas.
