Job Description

Job summary

We are a diverse, friendly, and enthusiastic team that is actively encouraging applications from as diverse a set of candidates as we can possibly get. If you are interested in the role but uncertain about your suitability, please drop us a line – we’d be very happy to have a chat.

A little about the role: The British Energy Security Strategy has set nuclear at the heart of HMG’s strategy to help ensure energy security. As well as that the UK is the first major economy to legislate for net zero carbon emissions by 2050. Delivering this will require £1 trillion of investment. Government’s near-term net-zero objectives are set out in the Prime Minister’s 10 Point Plan for a Green Industrial Revolution. Delivering new and advanced nuclear power in the UK is a core part of these 10 points.

As part of the DIT’s Energy Team working within the Nuclear New Build team, you will work to deliver the best possible economic benefits from these unprecedented opportunities. Specifically, you will work to support foreign investment in the UK civil nuclear sector, support companies already here to grow, and support UK based companies to export. You will do this by working with other parts of Government, industry, overseas posts, and many others to deliver the most supportive environment possible for companies operating or wanting to operate in civil nuclear. Alongside this core role, you will support the wider management of the Energy Team and the wider Sustainability and Infrastructure cluster.

Job description

Key Accountabilities

  • Working with colleagues in BEIS to ensure that their policy mechanisms – those that underpin civil nuclear – support, as far as possible, our investment, growth, and export objectives. Such policies include mechanisms for funding nuclear power projects and siting considerations for nuclear power stations.
  • Working with colleagues overseas in priority markets to create demand for UK products and services in civil nuclear energy. For example, by supporting events for companies and buyers, or by supporting engagement with overseas governments on their own deployment plans.
  • Building and maintaining good relationships with companies, trade associations, civil servants in other Departments, the devolved administrations, UK Export Finance, and many others to help you deliver your work.
  • Supporting the development of promotional and educational materials to support colleagues across the UK and overseas to deliver on their own priority work in the nuclear sector.
  • Contributing to the development of cross-cutting priorities, such as supporting delivery of the Department’s Clean Growth Campaign – one of seven priority campaigns the Department has launched this year.
  • Working to align sector-based activities with DIT’s wider interests, particularly on clean growth, levelling up and strengthening the Union.

The role will be based in either London or Edinburgh. You will be asked to express a location preference during the application process.

Please be aware that this role can only be worked from within the UK and not overseas.

Informal hybrid working arrangements will be available as agreed with the vacancy manager and in line with the requirements of the role.

Most DIT employees will be working a hybrid pattern, spending 2-3 days a week (pro rata) in an office, on average. If your office location is London, you will be eligible to receive London salary.

DIT will cover travel costs/expenses to any office which is not your usual office location in line with departmental expenses policy. DIT will not cover commuting costs to your agreed office location.

Appointments will be made to candidates in merit order based on location preferences.
