Responsibilities

Eastman Chemical Company is seeking a Masters or PhD level Chemical Engineer with a multiphase reaction engineering focus for the Scale Up and Process Innovation Division in Kingsport, Tennessee. The individual in this role will provide a high level of expertise across multiple technologies to solve problems.  Projects will vary in scope from data analysis, process/operational improvements, to capital improvements. 
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
- Lead and execute process improvement projects using multi-phase reaction engineering fundamentals in support of our growth and manufacturing areas.
- Leverage expertise and fundamental knowledge to solve problems and deliver breakthrough process improvements.
- Analyze performance of multiphase reactors and propose solutions that can be implemented in the plant.
- Actively participate in and lead multidisciplinary project teams.
- Apply engineering and scientific fundamentals to existing and new areas of interest
- Develop and drive new ideas and technologies.
- Document discoveries in technical reports and invention disclosures.
- Effectively communicate ideas and results verbally and in writing with technology, business, and manufacturing stakeholders.
- Ability to work at the lab, pilot, and commercial scale

Qualifications

Education and Experience:
- Masters or PhD in Chemical Engineering, Reaction Engineering/Heterogeneous Catalysis specialization preferred.
- 5+ years’ experience preferred.
- Manufacturing experience preferred.
The candidate must possess:
- Fundamental knowledge of multiphase reaction technology which could be applied across small molecule processes.
- Familiarity with principles and applications of heterogeneous catalysis is preferred but not required.     
- Ability to lead and contribute as a member of multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to work independently.
- Strong bias for action and drive for results.
- Previous project leadership in an industrial setting is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Broad interests and willingness to take on relatively undefined challenges.
- Ability to engage business leaders and develop economically attractive technologies.
