Provide innovative technical support for Eastman manufacturing units. Individuals in this role will utilize a broad range of engineering, team, and communication skills on projects that range from small, fast-paced assignments to larger, strategic, long range projects. This particular role requires a fundamental understanding of mechanical engineering. The individual in this role will:
- Work closely with Maintenance, Development, and Manufacturing personnel to assist the manufacturing unit in achieving their production, reliability, and maintenance objectives.
- Be responsible for workload and management of engineering projects from initial response to completion.
- Provide project management and engineering support for projects.
- Generate improvement ideas and designs.
- Summarize the issues being addressed and resolution plans for high-level management review
- Development of capital project scope, estimated cost, engineering design, generation of construction package, communication with construction forces to follow through to ensure desired outcomes are achieved.
- Development of and adherence to Eastman’s engineering design standards
- Partnership with Operations and Maintenance to identify and troubleshoot issues that prevent or limit production reliability.
- Ability to identify cost savings and improvement opportunities
- Develop understanding of Eastman’s processes for executing work including large gap analysis or study jobs, Management of Change (MOCs), EJobs, Work Orders, Small Capital Projects, and larger SER capital projects.
- Mentoring and onboarding of less experienced mechanical staff.
- Be self-driven and able to complete projects in a variety of execution environments outside of Kingsport site.
Qualifications
- BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering from accredited college or university
- At least 1 year of Mechanical engineering experience.
- Professional Engineering license preferred (not required)
- Ability to work in both design office and operating plant environments
- Excellent personal and engineering process mindset
- Working collaboratively in a multi-disciplined group or team environment

- Ability to organize and champion broader efforts semi-autonomously
- Demonstrated technical proficiency and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with engineering tools such as laser scanning, 3-D models, MicroStation, P&IDs, Microsoft suite, Engineer’s Aid, etc. is desired
- Some working knowledge of chemical processing equipment such as rotating equipment (pumps, fans compressors, etc…), piping and piping components (manual and automated valves, orifice plates, flow measuring devices, flange design, etc…) pressure vessels (relieve devices, vent designs, etc…) and basic materials knowledge (metals, gaskets, coatings, linings, etc…) is a plus.
