Position Overview:

This position will provide leadership for the warehouse, as well as overseeing the efficient receipt of material, warehousing, and distribution operations. The Materials Manager will be responsible for achieving operating objectives, overseeing the quality of services, executing all projects including system builds and implementation, improving ongoing financial growth and responding to industry trends and needs. The Materials Manager will also focus on bringing continuous improvement and best practice into the company. Ultimately, they shall ensure that productivity targets are achieved and that all warehouse processes are running smoothly and promptly.

In this function you will:

  • Actively manage and monitor the day-to-day operations of the warehouse including the employees, inbound receiving and quality inspections, inventory management and control, order fulfillment, shipping, and returns management.
  • Plan, direct and coordinate the activities of the warehouse in an organized, clean and safe environment that is in compliance with the Company’s policies, OSHA and Government regulations.
  • Mentor and develop existing supervisory team using a supportive and collaborative approach: assign accountability; set objectives; establish priorities; and monitor and evaluate results.
  • Responsible for staffing warehouse by recruiting, selecting and training employees; Provide the necessary leadership to maintain warehouse staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
  • Train/certify forklift drivers as needed; Maintain updated file/certifications for all operators.
  • Assist with assessment of warehouse performance against budget and operational goals; Identify areas in which reductions or modifications can increase service and decrease cost maximizing profitability.
  • Set the tone for the Company's relationships with its employees, suppliers, customers through policy statements, management actions and written/verbal communication.
  • Instill at all levels of operations the philosophy of continuous improvement. Facilitate a process so that all employees understand what this philosophy is, how they can participate, and that it’s an ongoing part of their job.
  • Ensure that plans and policies are consistently understood, correctly interpreted and administered.
  • Conduct weekly and monthly meetings with management to compare performance with objectives. Suggest solutions to problems, deal with current issues, and establish short-term objectives.
  • Deliver efficiency and control improvements through operational process analysis, collaboration, design, and implementation.
  • Develop key performance metrics to manage the warehouse. Ensure operational productivity, quality and effectiveness levels are set, implemented, and continuously improved.
  • When needed, oversee the expansion of the facility to meet short- and long-term growth projections.
  • Safeguard warehouse operations and contents by establishing and monitoring security procedures and protocols; Maintain physical condition of warehouse and upkeep of facility equipment.
  • Maintain a positive relationship with carriers and vendors.

Qualifications

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Engineering or related scientific discipline from an accredited institution is required
  • Two (2) years of experience working with MRP/ERP systems (Mapics / AS400)
  • One (1) year of supervisory experience
  • One (1) year of experience in materials planning systems, production planning, inventory control, and/or stockroom operations
  • One (1) years of experience working with Cross-Dock, Freight forwarders, 3PL
  • One (1) years of experience working with Dashboards
  • Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and within the future.
  • No relocation assistance will be provided. Candidates must live within a 50-mile radius of Sumter, SC.

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of Lean concepts
  • APICS CPIM or similar Supply Chain / Operations certification
