Job Description
Position Summary:
The Expediting Specialist will report to an Expediting Supervisor and perform expediting activities in accordance with Project Procurement and Functional Expediting Procedures. In addition, the Expediting Specialist will ensure the timely delivery of engineering submittals, materials and equipment to meet project needs.
Responsibilities:
Essential Job Duties:
- Contacts suppliers to obtain timely submission of engineering data and to follow-up on material acquisition, production progress and shipment.
- Expedites Bechtel engineering for the timely review, approval and return of engineering data submitted by suppliers.
- Evaluates production schedules and progress reports from suppliers to determine if their programs and work progress meet jobsite requirements.
- Provides early warning to the Expediting Supervisor of supplier deficiencies or schedule slippage.
- Compiles data needed to prepare the critical items reports or other supplementary reports as required. Coordinates the accumulation of data from project expediters and issues reports for the expediting group.
- Represents expediting at project team meetings.
- Maintains a working file of expediting related documents and memoranda of conversations to record expediting activities. Maintains a system to initiate follow-up actions at appropriate times.
- Provides information for area expediting assignments for prime and suborders as necessary.
- Updates Bechtel Procurement System (BPS) in a timely manner.
- Review’s material receiving reports against shipping documents to verify that material has been received at jobsite. Assists in tracing missing material.
- Subject to project requirements, monitors the issuance of material requisitions, and other project and procurement actions affecting material deliveries.
Qualifications and Skills:
Basic Qualifications:
- Level One - Bachelor’s degree and 1 year of professional related work experience, or in lieu of degree, 7 years of progressive, related work experience including but not limited to Procurement and Contracts preferably in an engineering, procurement, and construction environment.
- Level Two - Bachelor’s degree and 3 year of professional related work experience, or in lieu of degree, 9 years of progressive, related work experience including but not limited to Procurement and Contracts preferably in an engineering, procurement, and construction environment.
- Ability to work with engineering, construction and the other procurement team members.
- Good understanding of production methods and stays abreast of all supplier fabrication steps.
- Familiar with expediting points of order for pre-award and post-award meetings with suppliers.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
- Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site.
- Possess the right to work and remain in the United States without sponsorship.
- Knowledge of standard computer applications such as Microsoft Office.
- Skilled in preparing clear and comprehensive correspondence and reports.
- Ability to work with engineering, construction and the other procurement team members.
- Good understanding of production methods and stays abreast of all supplier fabrication steps.
- Familiar with expediting points of order for pre-award and post-award meetings with suppliers.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficient in interpreting schedules to ensure that realistic milestones are established, that required activities occur on time, and that interface between activities is maintained.
- Proficiency in using standard software applications, Bechtel Procurement System (BPS) use of the expediting module, and knowledge of other procurement modules.
- 2 years of Bechtel Expediting and/or Materials Management Experience or equivalent.
- Skilled in oral and written communication skills regarding technical and production matters with both project and supplier personnel.
- Possesses shop expediting experience, significant experience in project expediting or other procurement related function.
- Familiar with developing and tracking metrics.
- Candidates possess the right to work and remain in the US without sponsorship
