Description
The Director for the Scaleup & Process Innovation (S&PI) organization will have functional responsibility for leading the Scale Up division to support Eastman’s growth strategy through lab and pilot scale experimental work in support of the company’s extensive growth portfolio. The S&PI organization has a very strong safety record, and it is essential that the leader demonstrates a deep commitment to lab and scale-up safety. Additionally, the leader is tasked with maintaining many critical core competencies for the technology organization that support both scale up and long-term process innovation. This is a critical role that engages broadly across the multiple businesses within Eastman and provides the selected leader with an opportunity to make a major impact on Eastman’s growth strategy.
Job Responsibilities
- Be a visible safety leader, foster a strong culture of personal and process safety across the organization.
- Develop and maintain Technology strategic plans for resources, capabilities, facilities, budget aligned to business strategy.
- Participate as a Technology Leader on Care Solutions business and Technology Operations Leadership Team, Process Development and Circular Solutions Leadership Team, and the Eastman Technology Council.
- Steering team accountability for top growth projects and business initiatives including Circular Technology and Feedstock core team and the Polyester Recycling Technology Platform team.
- Provide ongoing coaching and development direct reports as well as organization team members. Help to remove obstacles that may prevent this team from excelling/meeting stretch goals.
- Coach to drive improved capabilities in the cross functional organization.
- Making staffing and hiring decisions for the technology organization to support business objectives.
- Takes ownership and interest in professional growth and development of technology team members.
- Managing R&D budget and capital allocation decisions.
- Communicate technical and business concepts to team members, peers, and senior management.
- Build and maintain relationships with key strategic partners in Technology, Manufacturing, and Business functions.
- Identify effectiveness and efficiency opportunities for the organization.
Qualifications
Required Education and/or Experience
- Masters or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science with or related field with 7 years of experience or a B.S degree with 10 years of experience is required.
- Proven track record and experience in engineering, scale up, process development, applications development, or innovation-related technical roles.
- Prior experience and accountability for driving lab safety.
- Demonstrated ability to engage and empower people, setting high expectations & clear direction, driving & delivering performance, and leading with agility.
- Ability to coach, develop and mentor technical talent to solve complex problems, deliver results and develop in leadership or technical career paths.
- Ability to lead a complex global organization.
- Self-motivated to resolve challenges and circumvent obstacles.
- Ability to understand, influence, and guide work within a matrixed organization
- Openly discuss opportunities to improve the performance of the business.
- Strong communication skills are essential. Communicate and present results to key stakeholders and senior business leaders.
- Strong sense of ownership and a drive to improve existing systems and processes by creative and innovative approaches.
