General Job Responsibilities
- Provide civil engineering technical support for study, definition and detailed design
- Interpret codes and standards related to functional areas of expertise.
- Maintain technical expertise in assigned functional areas, such as concrete and steel structures, geotechnical, underground pipelines, etc.
- Provide forecast cost and schedule estimates for capital and maintenance projects.
- Define scope of work for civil engineering portion of projects.
- Provide civil engineering design and specifications to support engineering, procurement and construction activities for projects.
- Identify opportunities for improved civil engineering design and services (e.g., quality, cost, reliability).
- Participate and lead improvement projects related to the civil engineering discipline and other engineering services.
- Perform assigned duties with attention to safety in both work practices and design.
- Perform assigned duties with a focus on teamwork and customer satisfaction.
Specific Job Responsibilities as TXO Detail Design Services Team Civil Engineer:
- Lead, execute and support design functions as a member of a multifunctional project team executing capital projects primarily from definition through detailed design, construction and startup
- Develop structural and foundation deliverables from conceptual stage through IFC.
- Support all CSA functions required to complete projects thru construction.
- Support project detailed design planning including developing scope, MTO estimates, engineering hour estimates & schedules and discipline project staff to meet project objectives.
- Develop work package by performing approximately 30% of the engineering and aligning the work into manageable segments for completion by others
- Provide oversight of work by other groups including deliverable quality checking
- Interface with laser scanning efforts and utilize actual scans for modeling
- Provide oversight of development of 3D models for structural design and foundations
- Oversee model reviews including customer input, quality, and clash resolution
- Responsible for successful discipline project outcomes (cost, schedule and quality conformance)
- Participate in the development and improvement of procedures and information management
- Interact with a variety of partners (engineering, operations, construction, etc) to answer questions and resolve issues including during field installation
- Embrace continuous process improvement for project execution and encourage non-traditional or changing work processes
Job Qualifications/Skills
- Bachelor (BS) or Master’s degree (MS) in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university is required for this role.
- Demonstrated progressive engineering experience including project design leadership required; minimum 6 years’ experience required.
- Demonstrated experience leading others in CSA design in the industrial/chemical sector.
- Working knowledge of CAD tools of both 2D and 3D preferred
- Demonstrated ability to lead design efforts on multiple assignments of varying complexity including implementation of process improvements
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop lesser experienced team members
- High regard for personnel and process safety with dedication to safety in design
- Excellent written, listening and verbal communication skills
- Strong planning and organization skills
- Ability to interface effectively with various engineering groups, plant operating and maintenance personnel, Project Construction, contractor personnel, and other groups as needed for capital project support and improvements
- Be a self-starter and a self-motivator – investigate, troubleshoot and solve problems with minimal guidance
- Knowledge and experience in variety of civil / structural areas required including:
- Reinforced Concrete Structures
- Steel Structures
- Underground Piping systems
- Geotechnical Knowledge
- Professional Engineer Certificate desired
