Position Overview:

The Design Engineer (Mechanical) will be involved with the mechanical design and development of the product line, supporting project design, development and production of prototype power distribution and monitoring/metering equipment. Research, evaluate, and document mechanical hardware design & production methods, equipment, systems, and sub-systems to meet requirements, applying knowledge of standards, codes & engineering design principles. Support the development of comprehensive mechanical engineering specifications for New Product Developments (NPD). Support the management and update throughout the prototype development process.

In this function, you will:

• Develop comprehensive product mechanical designs, installation diagrams & testing plans for NPD. Manage and update throughout product development to production release.
• Develop mechanical aspects of new power distribution & monitoring products, per approved engineering specifications. Test and document new products per approved testing plans. Maintain all design & test documentation within engineering repository system.
• Support Senior Engineers for the planning and testing and Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) certification of new and existing products. Communicate and support engineering team, designers, and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information.
• Recommend design modifications to improve product line by following and supporting the ECR/ECN/IS09001 and other quality processes. Prepare cost reduction proposals for new and existing products based on cost trades, design improvements and Value-Added Value Engineering (VAVE) process.
• Cross-train on other product lines like (PDU, RPP, STS, Magnetics and Busway). Create and maintain accurate documentation of concepts, designs concepts, tool drawings and shop orders in coordination with the Quality Assurance and Manufacturing functions.
• Inspect designs as requested to verify conformance to specifications. Recommend measures to improve production methods and quality of product.
• Maintain good housekeeping and safe and healthful working conditions in assigned areas. Adhere to safety rules and regulations in engineering and test areas as established by company policy. Work with Production to find more efficient methods of producing work. Participate in activities pertaining to Safety Program. Ensure that all regulatory and internal policies are followed.

Qualifications

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Industrial Technology from an accredited institution
• Minimum 3 years of engineering experience.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now or in the future.

 Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Revit, Autodesk Vault, or similar programs.
• Experience in Finite Element Analysis focused on stress and thermal properties.
