The Controllers Division Accountant can be assigned in multiple areas of Controllers Division, depending on current need and candidate experience, but the two most likely areas or Functional Accounting or General Accounting, so descriptions of these roles are provided below.
Functional Accountant
The Functional Accounting team provides cost accounting and analysis services to Eastman’s non-manufacturing functions, such as Finance, Human Resources, Supply Chain, Procurement, etc. Additionally, this team has corporate oversight, analysis and forecasting responsibility for the SGA, R&D and Distribution areas of the P&L. Individual functional accounting roles include the following areas of responsibility:
· Provide on-going support to management teams for assigned functions, including cost center reporting, variance analysis, cost center set-up and hierarchy assignment.
· Perform necessary duties for the monthly closing process, such as monitoring results of functional cost centers, projects, and PA assessments and taking proactive steps to ensure accurate financial results.
· Coordinate budget process for functional areas including the tasks of labor and cost center planning, functional reporting and analysis, PA assessment set-up, and business analysis of budgeted SGA, R&D and Distribution expense.
· Develop specialized reporting and analysis to support corporate reporting needs for functional areas, including functional direct spend reporting and business SGA analysis.
· Ensure consistent application of corporate policies and procedures as they relate to accounting for non-manufacturing direct spend and SGA, R&D, and Distribution expense.
· Assist with work within and outside of the work group; be of service to teams in efforts to solve problems and support decision making of functional management teams and co-workers.
General Accountant
The General Accounting team responsibilities include entity and accounting services for US legal entities, global intercompany process oversight, global treasury accounting, and corporate balance sheet analysis and forecasting. Individual general accounting roles include the following areas of responsibility:
· Perform necessary duties for the monthly closing process for assigned legal entities, including journal entries, intercompany reconciliations, and financial statement review and fluctuation analysis.
· Monitor intercompany relationships and transactions between legal entities.
· Research and explain variances for assigned sections of corporate balance sheet to ensure accuracy and understanding of financial results.
· Provide input and analysis for the monthly balance sheet and cash flow forecasts.
· Provide information and analysis to internal partners related to assigned legal entities.
· Provide information and analysis to external auditors in support of the annual financial audit and quarterly reviews
Required skills include:
· Strong analysis, planning, and organization skills
· Advanced spreadsheet skills
· Strong verbal and written communication skills
· High level of initiative and good judgment
· Ability to work with different personalities, cultures and levels of management
· 2+ years' accounting experience preferred
Education:
BS/BA – Accounting or equivalent educational background required. Certificates and advanced degrees are considered a plus.
