Responsibilities
Eastman is seeking an experienced research scientist / engineer with a strong background in organic molecule crystallization to represent Eastman’s core crystallization competency. An ideal candidate would possess 5+ years of experience in industrial crystallization. Recent graduates and postdocs with relevant research background may also be considered. For fresh graduates / postdocs, prior experience is not anticipated, but the candidate is expected to develop the desired level of expertise rapidly with minimal guidance.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop robust crystallization processes focusing on first principled knowledge-based approaches
- Lead and execute process development efforts using experimental studies in conjunction with process modeling as applicable
- Document discoveries in technical reports and invention disclosures
- Leverage expertise and fundamental knowledge to deliver breakthrough processes and/or products
- Actively participate in multifunctional project teams to execute projects in the specified timelines
- Effectively communicate ideas and data with other Eastman groups
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- PhD in Chemical Engineering, preferably with background / specialization in crystallization and related processes
- 5+ years of experience in industrial crystallization processes desirable
The candidate should possess:
- Knowledge of fundamental principles of small molecule crystallization and related phase separations
- Prior experience with polymer crystallization desirable, but not essential
- Familiarity with related unit operations such as filtration, drying, and other solid handling processes
- Project leadership experience in an industrial setting is preferred
- Ability to lead technology development efforts from lab scale through piloting to eventual commercial scale
- Ability to work independently and in a team as necessary to contribute both as a team member and as a team leader
- Initiative in looking for new process technology opportunities to expand Eastman capabilities
- Desire to establish Eastman’s technological advantage and bring external recognition
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Broad interests and willingness to take on relatively undefined challenges to develop process innovations
