As an Assistant Transportation Manager, no day is the same, but typically you'll be involved in the following:
Leadership - driver meetings, mentoring, motivating, ride-withs/coaching trips
Team Management - participation in interviewing, hiring, training, performance assessments, and recognition
Operational Management - route balancing, dispatch, equipment assignments, backhaul scheduling
Regulatory Oversight - DOT, Federal, State, and Local regulations
Route coverage during vacations and absences
Key qualifications and requirements for this position include:
At least 21 years of age (required)
High school diploma or GED equivalent (required)
CDL Class A (Commercial Drivers License) (required)
CDL-T certification preferred
Two to three years previous transportation experience and/or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
Clean driving record; as required by DOT and Gordon Food Service standards

Successfully passing a drug test that will assess drug usage (including marijuana) and a background check
Must have knowledge of DOT, OSHA, Smith System (Keys to Safe Driving) and dispatch procedures
Ability to lift and carry up to 100 pounds on a regular basis
Essential functions for this position:
Mentors, motivates, and develops staff and acts as a role model and resource to them.
Assists in interviewing, hiring, training, and retaining transportation associates.
Assists the Transportation Manager in conducting performance assessment of staff. Initiates recognition of excellence or disciplinary action steps when appropriate.
Conducts analysis of vehicle, driver and route assignments for high utilization; affects necessary changes to increase efficiency and lower costs.
Regularly rides with driver to provide coaching and training. Serve as back up driver on routes to cover vacations, sick and miscellaneous coverage as appropriate.
Performs administrative duties as assigned by the Transportation Manager.
Serve as liaison between Sales Service Drivers, Sales, and customers to determine causes and impact of service opportunities and provide possible solutions to service issues.
Supports other divisions when needed with a min of 2 consecutive weeks commitment.
Ensures compliance with administrative policies, procedures, safety rules, and governmental regulations. Supports departmental goals.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
Must have Good written and verbal communication, problem solving, decision making, customer service and interpersonal skills to represent the department and speak at minor functions.
Must have good time management and organizational skills.
Must be courteous, motivated, flexible, open minded, a visionary, enthusiastic, encouraging, and able to delegate responsibilities.
Must have a basic understanding of DOT, OSHA, EEOC, and BWC regulatory agencies and applicable laws.

Must have working knowledge of Handheld, delivery systems and backhaul systems and dispatch responsibilities.
Knowledge of spreadsheet, word processing, presentation, email and internet software applications.
Ability to operate a delivery van and tractor-trailer CMV
Must be able to operate a two-wheeler with a load weighing up to 350 pounds.
