Responsibilities

Overview: responsible for developing new fabrics using Eastman's filament and staple fibers to meet technical requirements as well as visual expectations of brands. The Textile Application Development scientist will be in contact with a cross functional team including business development, technical service, marketing and sales.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
• Work closely with sales to support business objectives. Provide technical assistance to all sales and business development representatives in assigned regions.
• Work with cross-functional team to evaluate new opportunities, recommend, specify and evaluate materials to be presented to mills and brand partners.
• Use consultative skills to build effective customer relationships that the customer values.
• Develop and support capabilities at mills for successful production of fabrics containing Eastman filaments and staple fibers.
• Lead application development at targeted customers for critical stages during new product development
• Support introduction of Eastman’s filament and staple fibers at customers, and assist on new fabric style developments
• Assist new customers in understanding the unique characteristics and performance of Eastman fibers; and help develop fabrics to meet brand’s technical and design requirements.
• Provide written technical trip reports to internal stakeholders.
• Provide appropriate applications training to cross-functional team.
• Provide accurate feedback on new fabrics performance to our sales and business development organization to aid in product development that lead to Eastman’s filament and staple fibers adoption. 
• Work closely with technology/product development colleagues to improve the performance of Eastman's fibers.
• Establish and maintain a high level of awareness of the competitive products and industry trends.
• Assemble, analyze, and summarize internal and customer data, using proficiency in spreadsheet tools, data analysis, graphical visualization, and statistics.
• Serve as a subject matter expert in product and product processing.
• Maintain/update technical materials. 

Qualifications

Candidate should possess: 

Education - A BS-level technical degree in textiles or engineering in science is required, a Masters-level preferred.  

Experience/Job Knowledge/Expertise - 
• 3-5 years’ experience in fabric development, production and processing is desired.
• High level of expertise in apparel and/or home textile fabric design and construction is preferred.
• Experience in spinning, weaving, knitting and design processes is highly desired.
• Experience in Stage gate project management is highly desired. 
• Demonstrated proficiency in technical trouble shooting and problem solving.
• Work experience in product development and customer interface at the mill and brand level
• Aptitude and experience in data analysis and presentation using Microsoft Office software.
Initiative – The candidate must be a self-starter who takes initiative in developing and maintaining technical expertise and enjoys a high-level of interaction with customers and internal stakeholders. The position will require quickly learning the knowledge and skills necessary to bring value to the customer, applying both theoretical and hands-on capabilities.  
Language Skills –   Written and spoken proficiency in English is required. 
Communication skills – Strong verbal and written communication skills as well as presentation & teaching skills are required. 
Teamwork – The candidate must have the interpersonal skills to develop strong working relationships with customers and internal stakeholders such as sales, Technology and Business development.
The candidate should have a strong interest in sustainability.
