This position represents an exciting opportunity for a scientist to apply Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry analysis techniques to a wide variety of matrices with an opportunity to lean and grow your chartography skills into Size Exclusion and Ion Chromatography. The candidate will play an integral role in providing analytical solutions for a diverse set of projects in support of research, commercialization, and problem solving for manufacturing.  The candidate will need to understand and use a variety of chemical and physical analysis techniques and know how to use the associated instrumentation, computer equipment, and software for these techniques.  Excellent documentation, communication, and interpersonal skills will also be needed, along with troubleshooting skills.  The candidate must be a dynamic, self-starting, and results-oriented individual with excellent interpersonal skills for working with diverse teams.  Networking skills, the ability to leverage scientific literature, and contribute innovative ideas are necessary.  The successful candidate will be working in a team environment and apply appropriate analytical characterization techniques to understand observable chemical or physicochemical affects leading to a more complete system understanding.

Responsibilities:

• Operation and maintenance of LC/PDA/MS instrumentation.

• Understand the advantages and limitations inherent in the different Mass Spectrometer designs (single Quad, triple Quad, TOF, Ion Trap) and able to use them all.

• Understand when a PDA detector is of more use than an MS detector.

• Ability to use these techniques for quantitative analysis and structure elucidation.

• Ability to operate and maintain Size Exclusion chromatographs with triple detectors for polymer analysis.

• Ability to operate and maintain Ion chromatographs and Capillary Electrophoresis instruments.

• Interact and collaborate with a wide verity of clients, colleagues, project team members, and other lab personnel.

• Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for samples and instrumentation.

• Must manage time and lab personnel.

• Support the QA/QC production analysis lab within the company for problem-solving assistance and troubleshooting instrumentation and techniques.

• Document, report, and present results at internal meetings.

Qualifications:

• Masters or higher in analytical chemistry with 3-10 years of experience in an analytical lab or relevant discipline.

• Expertise in wet chemistry techniques.

• Must have expertise in Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry, both in theory and practical operation.

• Knowledge in Size Exclusion chromatography and Ion chromatography.

• Demonstrated ability and desire to quickly learn new analytical techniques and skills.

• Excellent documentation and communication skills to interact with clients, colleagues, and other lab personnel.

• Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to work in a team environment.

• The ability to work and think both in a team environment and as an independent researcher.

• Ability to troubleshoot instrument and performance issues.

• Comfortable with basic statistics and using Excel spreadsheets for data reduction, math functions, and making graphs.
