We also run and manage our IT infrastructure, data centres and core banking systems that power the world’s leading international bank.

Our multi-disciplined teams include: DevOps engineers, IT architects, front and back end developers, infrastructure specialists, cyber experts, as well as project and programme managers.

We work in small, agile DevOps teams with colleagues around the world.

Following extensive investment across our Technology and Digital domains, we are currently seeking an experienced Full Stack Engineer to join HSBC Technology.

Overview

The Managed File Transmission Team is responsible for managing file transfers for both internal and external customers of HSBC via the shared file gateways on a variety of different platforms, products, technology and standards supporting file transfers across the HSBC Group for all lines of businesses. The team supports a number of technologies that provide highly reliable, resilient and secure services. The team is responsible for all aspects of the project lifestyle ensuring that bank policies, guidelines, governance are and standards are defined where necessary and followed. Team members are also expected to explore new process and procedure and continually seek improvement of themselves and the File Transmissions Domain globally.

Purpose of the Role

The File Transmissions Engineering Team are responsible for the products, technology and standards supporting file transfers across the HSBC group for all lines of business. The team delivers a number of technologies that provide highly reliable, resilient and secure services. The team is responsible for all aspects of the project lifestyle ensuring that bank policies, guidelines, governance are and standards are defined where necessary and followed. Team members are expected to identify new process and procedure, deliver updates to global standards and continually seek improvement of themselves and the File Transmissions Domain globally.

The candidate for this position will be expected to be a self-starter. The primary role is to define standards and engineering solutions for the implementation of file transmissions technologies. Additionally, the successful candidate will be assigned additional technical tasks to assist in the delivery and maintenance of products, solutions and projects for the progression of the File Transmissions Domain.

Role Expectation

  • Work to the highest level of quality and produce and promote standards relating to the implementation, upgrade and usage of the File Transmissions technologies. Where required, some assistance with support activities will be necessary.
  • Work under own initiative with management guidance to define standards, implement and test engineering solutions related to the File Transmissions technologies.
  • Contribute to the definition and evolution of our technology strategy.
  • Embrace new technology, features and ways of working to adopt and migrate File Transmissions technologies to use cloud and containers and promote standardisation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve our systems and our processes.
  • Lead design and engineering tasks to deliver solutions for file transmissions.
  • Understand functional requirements and scope and translate business requirements into technical specifications, architectures and solutions.
  • Help define and maintain the library of global standards and patterns, and evangelise the benefits of standardisation across a global estate of multiple services.
  • Provide SME guidance or 3rd line support to the delivery and support teams when required. This may require some level of flexibility with working hours to overlap different time zones.
  • Able to initiate the project foundation and deliver the core/critical logic in the project.
  • Adhere to HSBC policy, procedures and control requirements applicable to day-to-day working.

Requirements

Essential

  • IBM Sterling File Gateway (Sterling Integrator) Implementation, Configuration and Operation
  • IBM Sterling Connect:Direct (Unix / Windows) Implementation, Configuration and Operation
  • IBM Sterling External Authentication Server Implementation, Configuration and Operation
  • IBM Sterling Secure Proxy Implementation, Configuration and Operation
  • IBM Sterling Control Center Implementation, Configuration and Operation
  • OpenSSH Implementation, Configuration and Operation
  • Excellent general knowledge of file transfer protocols (e.g. sFTP, FTPS, C:D, AS2, HTTPS) and products
  • Windows and Linux system administration
  • Knowledge of cryptography / key management (SSL/TLS, SSH, PGP/GPG etc.) and data security
  • Wide experience of operational management of systems
  • Leading and delivering change to processes and systems
  • A strong level of IT literacy, including a broad knowledge of IT infrastructure (operating systems, networking, security)
  • Good analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • The ability to manage self-workload, set and meet customer expectations
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong sense of \'do the right thing\' in relation to standards and governance

Desirable

  • Experience on DevOps processes and Agile methodologies – Scrum, Kanban is preferred.
  • Understanding of Cloud Concepts (AWS, GCP) and AI/ML is desirable.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Splunk, MuleSoft is desirable
  • Pragma Fortress Implementation, Configuration and Operation
  • Competent Windows/Linux scripting (perl, shell etc.) knowledge.
  • Hands on administration experience of Windows and Unix/Linux operating systems.
  • Certifications (IBM or equivalent) would be an added advantage.

Location- Hybrid working Office and home based accross UK
