Role Summary
The Fuel Operations Manager is a subject matter expert in into-plane fuel services and ensuring it is performed safely and in compliance with all operational, administrative and regulatory requirements for Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air. As an individual contributor, this role exercises considerable judgement to make decisions in Fuel Operation activities including vendor oversight, with a focus on quality and performance. Also providing recommendations to address and work cross-divisionally to analyze operational and safety impacts, develop mitigation plans, and review, approve, and implement operational changes.
Key Duties
With minimal direction from leadership, exercise considerable judgement to make decisions that ensure fuel operations at Alaska Airlines (AS) and Horizon Air (QX) stations are maintained in accordance with all industry standards, regulatory and compliance requirements, and AS and QX operational requirements.
Manage vendors on quality, performance, cost, regulatory or policy compliance; identify performance issues, gaps, trends, assuring underperforming vendors are effectively managed to mitigate operational issues.
Communicate frequently with Safety, Airport Operations & Customer Service Quality Assurance (AOCS QA) to plan and execute vendor audits.
Monitor delay performance, audit reports, and regulatory agency observations, developing action plans to resolve deficiencies and ensure the highest level of operational service.
Drive into-plane performance improvements and operational enhancements in collaboration with into-plane service providers.
Apply deep knowledge in industry standards (ATA 103) and fuel quality testing requirements to integrate emerging best practices across the Alaska Airlines network; remain up to date on all industry changes and standards evolutions.
Communicate and ensure internal and external partners have awareness of critical and relevant updates to Fuel Technical standards, working in close partnership with industry and trade organizations; ensure vendor compliance with all applicable standards.
Represent Fuel Operations and Administration in support of AS and QX interests to various consortiums, industry groups and conferences.
Leverage fuel operational expertise to develop solutions for specific sections of the AS and QX fuel manual, work with Policy and Procedures to ensure standardized practices, and incorporate industry standards and guidelines.
Lead the development and communication of vendor requirements for new markets and stations, working with internal and external partners to ensure contracted services are in place to support AS and QX operations; ensure operational readiness.
Drive performance improvements through analysis and evaluation of new system implementations, programs and/or enhancements to improve operational performance.
Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills
Required
4 years of fuel or similar commodity operations experience within an airline or related organization.
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
Vendor management experience.
Excellent communication skills (e.g., verbal, written, and listening), including the ability to present and summarize complex information in a clear and concise manner.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
Detailed oriented and highly organized, with ability to multi-task and work independently with limited guidance in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to establish cross-functional, collaborative relationships with both internal and external partners.
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups, including coworkers, professionals, and peers.
Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to cope with conflicts caused by competing priorities.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum age of 18.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred
Knowledge and understanding of airline, aircraft and station operations.
Contract and negotiations experience.
