Position Summary:
Oversees the merchandising and inventory management associated with the fresh category assortment. Including, but not limited to ordering, merchandising, rotating, regular quality inspections and product knowledge acumen to ensure the needed execution of our fresh programs. May also assist in the daily operations of Gordon Food Service Stores including: sales, customer service, slicing product, and maintaining overall store conditions. Promotes, sells and signs up customers for Store programs (loyalty) and services (Wholesale Catalog, E-Commerce, etc.) to increase customer relations and retention.
Essential Functions:
Determine amount and place orders of fresh product assortment from our DSD vendors on a weekly basis focusing on meeting or exceeding our desired sales, in-stock and margin shrink metrics.
Responsible for maintaining freshness levels, dynamic presentation of product, and upholding safety/health standards of product in the cooler, fresh meat and produce area.
Provide superior customer service to all Gordon Food Service Store customers by greeting customers, answering questions, suggestive selling, showing customers where product is, engaging in conversation, answering the telephone, assisting with special requests and express orders.
Accurately receive, inspect and merchandise products along with ensuring proper rotation and product quality. Execute on end cap and planograms along with maintaining store backstock organization.
Assist with merchandising disciplines such as sequencing, count verification, inventory adjustments, price verification and sign maintenance for assigned areas of responsibility.
Actively participates and mentors sales associates on merchandising of fresh category assortment within the store by supporting fresh program execution in quality and presentation.
Encourage customers to place E-Commerce orders and actively promote store products and services.
Set excellent work ethic example, display a sense of urgency and a positive attitude for their peers.
Maintain facility through general maintenance and cleaning activities in executing sanitation practices of perishable areas of meat, produce and seafood where applicable.
Safely operate power equipment, such as slicing equipment, tow motors and fork lifts where applicable.
Adhere to the purpose and philosophy of the organization including, but not limited to, the cornerstone values and applicable practices of the organization.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
Knowledge of or ability to develop knowledge of produce, fresh meat and other cooler product categories.
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing
Excellent customer service skills
Ability to perform tasks, prioritize, and work independently or within a team
Basic mathematical aptitude to perform simple addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, and counting
Ability to count and make change
Solve routine problems of limited scope and complexity following established policies and procedures
