Freedom Boat Club is an international leader in owning and franchising Boat Clubs since 1989. We have over 230 franchised locations in addition to 40+ corporate owned boat clubs in operation throughout North America and Europe. The Freedom Boat Club thrives on providing a top-notch member experience EVERY time. As our company has grown, we have developed more needs for technical leadership in the business justification, requirements gathering, development, and testing of our systems, the support of our franchisees, and the coordination of our business and technical resources to implement the technology roadmap. This role will lead our technology priority programs and help FBC continue to lead the field in the boat club space.
Overview
UX Designers at Freedom Boat Club are responsible for the design of interactive, digital products to support on- and off-boat user experiences. UX Designers approach all projects with curiosity and empathy; applying their deep understanding of user needs to the design of new experiences (represented via information architecture, user flows, wireframes, and prototypes) and collaborate closely with Product Managers, UX Researchers, UI Designers and Developers to bring these concepts to life in the final product.
We are looking for candidates with the following skills & experiences:
Has experience applying human-centered design and design thinking methodologies throughout product development
Can spot opportunities for breakthroughs, seek analogous sources of inspiration, and bring inspiration back to product teams
Has experience designing across a variety of digital platforms, including, web, app, voice, and IoT
Believes in prototyping early and often to test assumptions and get feedback from users
Has experience on cross-functional teams, and enjoys a fast-paced, collaborative environment
Enjoys framing complex problems in a simple, intuitive way to educate stakeholders and team members
Maintains a mindset of curiosity and openness when working across teams and functions; Asks questions, learns through secondary research, talks to experts, requests feedback, and seeks out other perspectives.
Responsibilities
Work at a strategic and tactical level across multiple projects and teams
Collaborate with UX Researchers and participate in exploratory user research, concept testing & usability testing to uncover unmet user needs and challenges
Collaborate with Product Managers, Industrial Designers, Marketing teams, Electrical Engineers, Software Developers, and Stakeholders to understand business goals, technical constraints, and product roadmaps
Conduct secondary research, including trend benchmarking and competitor analysis
Translate research insights into tangible concepts that address unmet user needs, business opportunities, and technical feasibility
Make sense of complex systems and processes and represent them in simplified models (customer journeys, ecosystem maps, interaction models, etc.) as tools to communicate the current state and ideal user experiences
Create wireframes and prototypes for: visualizing concepts and interactions, seeking feedback, and sharing design specifications
Collaborate with UI Designers on visual and interaction design
Contribute to existing design systems, and identify the right interaction patterns to apply in new contexts
Support Developers and QA teams with design problem solving as needed and detailed design reviews
Qualifications
3+ years of professional UX design experience (although you might have had a different job title, like “UX Architectâ€, “Experience Designer,†“Design Strategist†or “Interaction Designerâ€)
Highly developed human-centered design skills, demonstrated in your portfolio of recent work
Confident presentation and storytelling abilities
Proficiency with a range of design and prototyping tools; including Sketch, Figma, InVision, Framer, Principle, Adobe CC suite
Undergraduate or graduate degree in User Experience, Interaction Design, Human Computer Interaction, or a related design or behavioral science discipline
Business level ability in English
Bonus Qualifications
Strong visual, interface design (UI) skills to create branded, intuitive, and engaging interfaces
Experience planning and conducting user research & usability testing, remote and in-person
Experience in the Marine, RV, Automotive or Hospitality Industries
Design for IoT
