Job Description

PURPOSE:

Ensure that quality packaging materials are supplied to palletizing operations and transport pallets of finished cans to appropriate area of the warehouse.

SAFETY:

Maintain a safety awareness attitude in daily performance of their assigned task and to be alert to the safety of fellow employees.  Items include, but not limited to maintaining proper utilization of all required personal protective equipment, safely operating forklift, comply with safety directives, etc.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Keep palletizer properly supplied with pallets, top frames, and slip sheets and ensure the quality of all materials.
  2. Keep pallets aligned properly and remove jams as needed.
  3. Make sure pallet inventory is properly sorted, with defective pallets stored in separate area.
  4. Check conditions of forklift and perform basic P.M.’s at start of each shift.
  5. Ensure strappers are full of banding material and pallets are flowing smoothly through lower conveying. Perform band tension check once per shift and document results on check sheet.
  6. Inspect and transport finished pallets to warehouse, referring any H.F.I.s for proper disposition.
  7. Maintain good housekeeping in lower conveying area.
  8. Assist in other areas as needed to maintain a smooth flow of cans through the plant.

Job Requirements

  1. Ability to safely operate all forklifts in plant.
  2. High stacking, double tine experience preferred
  3. Know how to fill tanks and do basic inspections of fork truck at shift start up.
  4. Knowledge of can sizes, lacquer finishes and pack sizes.
  5. Able to read and understand pallet tickets and date codes and production schedules.
  6. Understand dunnage materials specifications, quality packaging requirements and H.F.I. procedures.
  7. Basic understanding of can manufacturing process and quality can specifications.
  8. Working knowledge of palletizing system and lower conveying.
  9. Knowledge of safety regulations which apply to work functions.
