Job Purpose and Impact

The Food Scientist will support the Case Ready Segment, providing technical and scientific expertise on meat product development and innovation, with emphasis in raw material quality and functional properties, value-adding, non-meat ingredients, and shelf life extension. The Food Scientist will execute projects in collaboration with Business Managers and other stakeholders for both branded and private label products. We seek for a highly motivated professional that thinks out of the box and finds innovative and cost-effect solutions to the business and customers. In this role, you will identify and implement technical solutions to meet business goals.

Key Accountabilities

  • Identify product growth and new product opportunities providing technical and scientific solutions in meat product development and innovation.
  • Provide technical guidance, leadership, and work on projects to improve processing efficiency, throughput, product quality, and food safety of value-added meat products.
  • Partner and stay connected with cross-functional teams (marketing, insights, sales, ops, FSQR, and regulatory).
  • Provide findings and analysis with insights, research, and commercial brand to develop short and long-term testing programs for experimental and commercial products and IP generation.
  • Collaborate and build partnership with sales, business management, and marketing professionals to identify customer needs and translate these into new product development opportunities.
  • Independently solve moderately complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating more complex issues to appropriate staff.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field OR equivalent experience.
  • Food industry manufacturing experience; research and development, Operations, FSQR, Sensory evaluation, product development, continuous improvement, etc.
  • Demonstrate ability to work with minimal supervision and teamwork collaboration.

Preferred Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Meat Science, Food Engineering, Animal Science, Poultry Science, or related field.
  • Master's degree or other post-secondary degree.
  • Strategic thinker with ability to build effective plans to support business strategies and goals.
  • Project management experience.

Domestic relocation is offered
