Job Description

Job Description:

Position Description:

Evaluates strategic opportunities — corporate venture investments, potential acquisitions, divestitures, strategic alliances, and business unit evaluations and reviews. Gathers and synthesizes materials on companies, products, and industries and effectively communicates findings to management and stakeholders. Researches and analyzes current and future trends in the financial services industry — asset management, discount brokerage, institutional services, and retirement services. Monitors fundamental economic, industrial, and corporate developments by analyzing information from financial publications and services, investment banking firms, government agencies, trade publications, company sources, or personal interviews.

Primary Responsibilities:

•           Supports the valuation and due diligence process of potential acquisitions and strategic investments.

•           Assists with the evaluations of core and non-core businesses — improving financial profitability and overall strategy.

•           Performs research and maintains affiliations with professional organizations.

•           Monitors strategic moves of top competitors and industry leaders and new entrants in the field.

•           Researches developments in the fields of industrial technology, business, finance, and economic theory.

•           Develops complex financial and valuation models using investment principles.

•           Prepares investment plans for the team using financial research and analyses.

•           Presents oral and written reports on general economic trends, individual corporations, and industries.

•           Interprets data on price, yield, stability, future investment risk trends, economic influences, and factors affecting investment programs.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Economics, Mathematics, Finance, Accounting, or a closely related field and three (3) years of experience in the job offered or three (3) years of experience performing financial and competitive market analysis to evaluate strategic investments and transactions in the financial services industry.

Or, alternatively, Master’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Economics, Mathematics, Finance, Accounting, or a closely related field and one (1) year of experience in the job offered or one (1) year of experience performing financial and competitive market analysis to evaluate strategic investments and transactions in the financial services industry.

Skills and Knowledge:

Candidate must also possess:

Demonstrated Expertise (“DE”) examining company financial, governance, operating models, and go-to-market strategies to identify advantages in operations, finance, risk, and technology; conducting due diligence during mergers, acquisitions, and strategic investments using virtual data rooms; modeling and recommending purchase prices using discounted cash flow analysis; negotiating transaction terms; and providing senior management and business stakeholders with purchase price recommendations, return on investment analysis, and revenue and expense synergies to enable key investment and asset allocation decisions.

DE performing complex financial modeling — processing financial and operational data, creating financial (income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow) statements and operating models, bear, bull, and base scenario analysis, valuing companies, using discounted cash flows, comparable public company, and transaction analysis — using Microsoft Excel and S&P Capital IQ.

DE conducting market research and industry competitive analysis — analyzing financial and operational data of key companies — on industry trends, competitor fundamentals, survey results, broker and consultant reports, and company news releases using third-party databases (Cerulli and Pitchbook); analyzing SEC financial regulatory filings; and examining regulatory changes and presenting results of that analysis to senior management and business stakeholders.

DE partnering with matrixed teams — product, sales, legal, and technology — to evaluate and identify strategic opportunities encompassing corporate venture investments, potential acquisitions, divestitures, strategic alliances, and partnerships; analyzing non-core businesses for commercialization or divestiture to help business units prioritize investment priorities; and performing business planning, market sizing and segmentation, and implementing strategic initiatives, using Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and screening (Pitchbook and CB Insights) and tracking tools (Affinity).
