Some careers have more impact than others.

If you’re looking for a career where you can make a real impression, join HSBC and discover how valued you’ll be.

Global Finance is integral to HSBC’s purpose and strategy, playing a valued role in managing costs and deploying capital in the most effective way. Our global team of finance professionals’ partner with the business to provide trusted insights and forward looking analysis; accuracy; efficiency and control to frame and influence business decisions.

We are currently seeking an ambitious individual to join our team as a Finance on the Cloud Controls SME, working together with colleagues to define, manage and achieve divisional business targets.

Role Purpose

The overall objective of the Finance on the Cloud initiative is to deliver standardised global processes that leverage a single dataset for reporting, analysis and forecasting. This will be enabled through definition and implementation of revised organisation and operating model for Finance, leveraging investment in data sources and Cloud technology. The Programme is a key initiative for Finance, enabling the implementation of a leaner Finance function supporting actuals and forecast reporting, and allowing more time and focus on value creation activities and deliverables. Programme outcomes are to deliver a singular automated data production processing capability for actuals and forecasting, correction of data once for all downstream calculations, reports and outputs, introducing automated preventative and detective controls and significantly reduce manual activity in the run-time actuals process.

A key aspect of the Cloud initiative is to improve the control environment within Finance, through the development of more robust and data centred controls, increasing the transparency of the controls in place and the effectiveness of those controls. To do so involves thinking differently about how assurance is gained over reporting, through considering the end to end process and the key control points therein. The use of technology to automate controls and also provide transparency over the controls and their effective operation will be key as part of this.

The role holder as an SME is accountable to the FoTC Controls lead and is responsible for supporting the development of the strategic design principles for delivering a more robust control environment, and managing the design and implementation of controls and the assurance model over data and processes. This includes adherence with the Sarbanes Oxley framework and compliance with the Operational Risk framework in respect of non-financial risks.

In this role, you will:

  • Participate in the design of strategic design principles to drive development of the enhanced control environment
  • Identify and support evaluation of emerging technologies and approaches to control innovation
  • Support the definition of controls within the target processes and how performance of these fits in with the target operating model
  • Help define target state control team structure to reflect the new operating model and controls.
  • Embed updated controls as part of parallel runs and testing prior to go live of each wave of the programme.
  • Define the skill-sets required in the new operating model and how to gain and build/train such skills to ensure the function can implement and drive the strategy forward
  • Ensure appropriate communication across Finance, as well as other functions, such as Risk and the businesses who form part of overall control environment over financial reporting risk
  • Co-ordinate and contribute to developing training content for roll out to the Reporting and Data Operations teams
  • Work with dynamic plans in a fast moving environment, continually assessing priorities and progress and adjusting course where necessary, being sure to maintain stakeholder buy-in
  • Closely work with Project manager to progress project to plan, co-ordinate and prioritize activities/resources, facilitate sign offs on each milestone delivery and escalate risks/issues in a timely manner for consideration

Qualifications

To be successful in the role, you should meet the following requirements:

  • Experienced Finance Professional with extensive experience and thorough understanding of, managing, overseeing and applying controls across a Finance function, including those underpinning SOX and Operational Risk frameworks
  • Proven track record in playing a key role in delivering a complex change project in the Financial and Regulatory reporting space
  • Experience with working with innovative technologies to support control design
  • Significant prior experience of designing and implementing new controls and processes
  • Strong Cross-Finance knowledge and experience, able to confidently speak on behalf of Finance
  • Exceptional drive, commitment and focus on operational excellence
  • Committed to continuous improvement, self-motivated, confident, creative and capable of working effectively autonomously as well as part of a team
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment with strong management, decision-making, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills including the ability to listen to and influence stakeholders at all levels, and to build consensus among a wide range of internal and external customers with conflicting priorities

You’ll achieve more when you join HSBC.
