SUMMARY:
Performs professional accounting work which is of greater than average difficulty and responsibility because of the presence of unusual and novel problems or the substantial impact of the assigned organization’s performance.
Responsible for the direction of a major segment of an accounting system serving a large, complex organization.
Makes substantial contributions across a wide range of functions through guiding, directing, or coordinating the work of others.
JOB DIMENSIONS:
A. Supervision Received
- Acts independently within defined limits. Periodically seeks advice of management. Performance is evaluated primarily through appraisal of results.
B. Supervision Exercised
- Directs the work of a small to medium-sized staff of professional accountants.
C. Contacts
- Contacts between the job incumbent and representatives internal and external to Bechtel as necessary for the fulfillment of job requirements.
- Maintains working relationships with division/project or office Controller personnel to be aware of Controller activities, provide guidance and support and implement appropriate actions. Contact with division project and cost engineering personnel and other service departments such as Personnel or Procurement.
- External contact with client personnel, government agencies, auditors.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Supervises a major segment of accounting operations for a division or service.
- Supervises part of specialized function, Controller Systems for example.
- Provides functional direction and professional guidance to accounting supervisors at smaller projects and offices within assigned division.
- Assists in contract negotiation and contract review.
- Makes independent studies, analyses. and interpretations of very complex financial, tax, or accounting data.
- Performs the general functions inherent in all supervisory positions. Selects and administers salaries of clerical and/or professional staff. Responsible for training and development of personnel. Plans, schedules, and monitors work, participates in organization analysis, and establishes and maintains standards of performance.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree and 13 years of related experience, 19 years in lieu of degree
- Requires knowledge of professional accounting. financial or tax concepts and principles plus working knowledge of related activities gained through specialized education and/or work experience of a progressively responsible nature. Proficiency and experience in the application of these principles to a wide variety of complex accounting or tax problems domestically and/or internationally.
- Experience or skill in supervisory activities such as distribution and control of work. interviewing and selection, salary planning, performance evaluation and career discussion when delegated, training and development of personnel and related areas of personnel administration.
- Working knowledge of computer systems as applied to accounting functions.
- Skill in working with and communicating effectively orally and in writing with other Controller personnel, division, service or project functional groups and Controller management.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Thorough understanding of Bechtel and Controller organizational structure, management instructions applicable Bechtel Directives and policies and procedures.
