The Role

The Finance Advisor Renewable & Energy Solutions (R&ES) Business to Consumer (B2C) Netherlands will deliver future ready Finance support to Shell’s R&ES business, which under the Shell Energy brand delivers energy and associated products and services to private customers in the Netherlands.

The Shell Energy B2C business in the Netherlands is in start-up mode, with the ambition to grow significantly through the ongoing launch of a digital B2C energy retail platform under the Shell Energy brand. R&ES B2C Finance supports growth with commerciality and a sustainable cost base, ensuring responsible utilisation the approved funding. In 2022, the Shell Energy B2C business in the Netherlands is set to reach ~100 FTE, with this appropriately growing in line with business success.

This is an outstanding opportunity to be a true Finance Business Partner to a new and exciting digital B2C business.

Where you fit in?

The Finance Advisor in support of the business will:

• Work directly with R&ES B2C Netherlands leaders (General Manager, Commercial, Operations, Marketing, Supply, Customer Experience, etc.) representing Finance with the business and playing the independent role in decision making.
• Foster integration by ensuring the highest collaboration within RE&S and across Shell. Support relevant B2C Energy Transition agendas in The Netherlands where appropriate. The work will change over time and be prioritised based on value and risk, and professional development.
• Ensure that Finance is deeply customer centric and understands specific customer needs and contributing to providing the most focused customer experience (Customer Lifecycle Value Models, Customer Journeys, Customer Resource Management, Operational Excellence etc.).
• Be part of a wider finance community in Renewable & Energy Solutions and Shell and expected to make positive and impactful contributions. This role will report to the Finance Manager R&ES B2C Netherlands.

What’s the role?

The Finance Advisor's key accountabilities include owning a variety of activities/opportunities based on Value and Risk:

• Performance Management; develop and own a Management Information System, grounded in digital operating processes, to efficiently and objectively assess performance, make value transparent, and set targets. Ensure Finance delivers actionable insights through advanced forensic analytics and data visualization, benchmarking, and other external insights.
• Business Decision Support; provide commercial Finance (Costing, Pricing, Customer Lifecycle Value, M&A etc.) and decision-making support to business opportunities, challenges, business models and strategy development. Occasionally this may involve providing support to other geographies and ensuring best practices are replicated to other markets and vice versa.
• Management in Control; independently ensure that a proper functioning control framework is in place and that the right risk/reward focus is applied across the organisation. With a significant OPEX budget it will be crucial to maintain capital discipline to effectively frame value/risk discussions. 
• Deliver seamless Operational & Corporate Finance Support (Cash Management/Funding, Reporting, Receivables/Payables, Tax, Credit, Audit etc.) with an absolute focus on Operational Excellence and ensuring B2C Finance benchmarks as world class and that this support is frictionless for the business. Where possible maximise the use of Finance Operations (FO) in delivery of processes. 
• Drive delivery and influence through the broader Finance organisation by leveraging the excellent centres of expertise whilst being the single face of Finance for the business. Where FO and Business act together to deliver, the Finance Advisor leads/initiates structural improvements and leaves accountability for delivery with the accountable people (the Finance Advisor is explicitly not acting as an ad hoc fixer to mitigate process performance issues).

What we need from you?

We are keen to hear from candidates with experience in the following areas:

• Knowledge about the Netherlands B2C Energy market and preferably with proven experience in B2C, Trading & Supply and the Energy Transition. 
• Experienced Finance professional with an all-round set of core Finance skills including performance management, reporting and accounting, value management, governance, controls & risk management, treasury and tax.
• Ability to "step up" for a new, exciting business. Able to establish high engagement, communicate bold direction, raise the delivery bar of finance support and inspire business results.
• Learner Mindset – The Energy Transition is dynamic and extremely fast moving and the Finance Advisor will need to be a role model of being curious about new possibilities and motivate continuous learning in the finance community.
• A demonstrated track record of being externally active, someone who looks for new ideas from everywhere and not limited by “not invented at Shell".
