Position Summary 

We’re looking for a creative, agile and resourceful Field Engineer to help us fulfil our ambition of delivering Fibre To The Home (FTTH) to 8 million premises. Reporting to the Construction Manager, you’ll be responsible for monitoring a Full Fibre Network deployment project within one of our Cities. You’ll use your expertise to oversee both the civil and fibre construction activities, ensuring that our supply partner is carrying out site operations on time, to specification within Quality, Health and Safety and Environmental guidelines. 

 

Typical Responsibilities 

  • Support and coach the build partner, ensuring any ‘blockers’ to the plan are highlighted and escalated  
  • Conduct site audits  
  • Collaborate with other members of the team to ensure contract implementation on site, including drafting contract correspondence, reports or changes for use in contract administration 
  • Update daily/weekly progress tracking reports and review against the project delivery milestones, validate payments and highlight any risks to the Construction Manager 
  • Confirm all post installation/as-built documents are completed and checked in accordance with the conditions of the project and client requirements 
  • Consult with the Highways Department, Local Authorities and other Utilities companies on behalf of CityFibre to coordinate works  
  • Check that principal contractors have site-specific method statements and risk assessments in place 
  • Liaise with the public, dealing with any issues that the network construction activities may have caused 
  • Deputise for the Construction Manager at Local Authority Highways/Roads and Contractor meetings. 

 

Desirable Skills and Qualifications 

  • You’ll have a track record of supervising utilities and need to be highly self-motivated with the passion and drive to succeed, as well as an excellent communicator with the ability to negotiate outcomes that mitigate project risks. 
  • Typically requires bachelor’s or master’s degree (or international equivalent) and 2-4 years of relevant experience or 6-8 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree 
  • Outside Plant (OSP) Telecoms Network Build experience 
  • Experience of managing contracted engineering works  
  • Fibre optics splicing and Optical Time-domain Reflectometer (OTDR) or Insertion Loss Measurement (ILM) testing experience 
  • Knowledge of Blown and Traditional Cable installation techniques 
  • An understanding of method statements and risk assessments 
  • Working knowledge of Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations 
  • An understanding of the New Roads & Street Works Act 1991 (NRSWA) 
  • Completion of IOSH Managing Safely course or Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) 
  • A full driving licence valid in the UK 

 

Locations 

Positions are available in the North and Southeast of England. Depending on the distance from your home to the location of work you may be eligible for reimbursements/contributions toward your expenses for accommodation and/or travel.
