Job Description

Job Purpose and Impact

The Fermentation Advisor will work across the global fermentation community of practice to develop and implement innovative solutions that further the company's competitive advantage as a global leader in large scale fermentation as part of the corporate fermentation research and development team. In this role, you will influence the strategic direction of the domain capability development, drive the pipeline and portfolio creation and lead research through a combination of execution and management

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide thought leadership in technology, process and new product development.
  • Participate in strategy development, support talent, infrastructure and capability development in fermentation research and development.
  • Provide technical leadership on peer review of internal research and due diligence of external technology.
  • Lead and execute research within strategic global technology programs.
  • Foster relationships with internal and external research partners as needed.
  • Mentor more junior team members in the development of processes and products to further the department’s goals.
  • Provide expert thought leadership in your field and work with limited direction, using additional research and interpretation to identify issues or problems. You may provide direction to supporting team members and be a strategic contributor.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in biotechnology, biochemistry, microbiology or a related field.
  • Command of microbial physiology, application of reaction stoichiometry and biochemical engineering fundamentals as applied to fermentation design, kinetics and thermodynamics
  • Confirmed thought and strategic leadership
  • Ability to leverage external network and guide work with third party technology providers
  • Experience working in plant operations and across organizations and geographies
  • Minimum of six years of related work experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctorate degree in microbiology, biochemical engineering or related field
  • Ability to scale up and scale down processes
  • Practical experience with a broad range of fermentation processes and organisms
  • Ability to conduct complex fermentation experiments with a high level of excellence to ensure precise and accurate data.
  • Ability to partner with commercial fermentation facilities to support problem resolution or evaluate and implement new process technology.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders and implement change without direct authority, using data, technical knowledge and inclusive approaches.
