Eaton’s Critical Power and Digital Infrastructure Sector is currently seeking a Failure Analysis Quality engineer to join our team. This position is based in Chicago, Illinois.

This position will initially be based at our Chicago, IL facility with an eventual move to Woodridge, IL.  This move is anticipated to occur mid to late 2022.

Position Overview: 

This position performs failure analysis to the component level of Eaton power quality and power distribution products to determine root cause and identify corrective and preventive actions to improve quality, increase product reliability, and customer satisfaction

In this function you will:

  • Provide failure analysis reports to document findings for distribution to internal and external customers, quality support to resolution of reported customer quality issues and new product development projects including project quality deliverables and activities to assure quality of new product releases.
  • Recommend corrective and preventive actions with the goal to  increase process performance metrics and product reliability.
  • Manage the logistics of nonconforming material including administration, inbound/outbound and disposition of product in collaboration with Test and Quality team members.
  • Develop test plans for analysis of returned failed products based on available failure information received to duplicate reported failure mode and determine root cause
  • Generate Failure Analysis reports for distribution to internal and external customers
  • Document failure information including root cause and possible corrective and preventive actions as a feedback loop to improve product quality and provide input to new product development processes
  • Manage Failure Analysis Lab logistics including administration, inbound/outbound management, and disposition of product
  • Support/ Maintain test equipment in accordance with calibration system requirements
  • Maintain a Failure Analysis database including priority management, end-to-end tracking, and status until analysis resolution to meet customer requirements and collect product operational event and history logs to facilitate failure analysis
  • Maintain 5S+ in the work areas associated with the failure analysis process
  • Assist in facilitating and supporting company internal and external audits
  • Maintain internal documentation control system of all company processes and procedures
  • Adhere to all environmental, health, and safety policies and procedures and work procedures

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree or Certificate in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in troubleshooting electronic equipment
  • Relocation Assistance is not available for this position. Only candidates within a 60-mile radius of Chicago, IL, will be considered
  • Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and within the future

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to read, understand and interpret product drawings, manufacturing documents and electronic schematics
  • Ability to solder surface mount and discrete components on PCBA’s
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited educational institution
  • Experience in failure analysis of electronic systems to root cause and identification of corrective actions 
  • 3+ years’ experience in troubleshooting electronic equipment
  • PCBA Failure Analysis experience
  • Previous work experience of problem-solving methods such as: Six Sigma, 8D, root cause analysis, and the associated statistical tools used to analyze problems, evaluate, and complete improvement projects.
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE)
  • Knowledge of Quality standards, ISO-9001
  • Six Sigma certified
  • SAP Experience

Position Criteria:

  • Electrical technical knowledge of troubleshooting/failure analysis of failures down to the component level on printed circuit boards to determine root cause based on findings and test information of failures
  • Good knowledge of analog and digital electronic circuit theory, and communications with external equipment and software applications
  • Ability to perform tests and utilize test equipment needed based on information of failures
  • Proactive team player able to work with Test, Quality and Product Engineers in finding root cause for failures.
  • Independently setting priorities based on failure analysis product needs
